She might as well be saying "friendship drive garging" or "landing gear retracteted

I have to admit i'm glad i wasn't drinking when i first read that meme thread, friendship drive is exactly what i hear half the time, i think its because the thing is charging up while shes speaking and it just muffles the whole thing into friendship...

+1 on the groot. or like someone else said a Brian Blessed voice over 'CANOPY BREACH DETECTED' omg yes do want.

I started a thread about this in beta. They went from pre-recorded actual human voice to completely computer generated.

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=62182&referrerid=47032

I would prefer the old voice back - it really was nicer sounding to me. The limitation is that if new voice responses are needed then you have to bring the actor back. Computer generated ones allow them to change, modify and extend them on the fly.

I support the call for voice packs. I would happily support FD with some more money if we could have different voice packs to choose from.

Digging into that thread about generated voice: I looked at the changelog and IMO the change is about enhancing infrastructure supporting use of voice in the game. I don't think the voices are generated, if they were there would be noticeable consistency in use of phoneme and rhythm in each sentence. TBH I would prefer a high-quality synth voice over the current set of samples...

Bobbleheads first! Then we can talk about voice packs.

I'd like a Guardians of the Galaxy voicepack with Groot voicing the computer. Every feedback from the computer should be "I am Groot" with very subtle changes in tone. Yes? Anyone? Anyone...? Ok, maybe not...

+1 if it comes with a Groot bobblehead.

Please please DON'T change her voice. Or if you do leave us the option of keeping her. Her voice is perfect.

The computer does sound very jolly when it gets to talk about the cargo scoop, though.

The cargo scoop announcement is the one that startles me the most as it really does sound a tad strange - like she's had a little too much to drink.

...As for 'Friendship Drive' - I don't hear it at all. I've tried so many times to try and hear 'Friendship' but I only get 'Frameshift'. I can only guess that it has something to do with which part of the world you come from. I'm from South Australia.

Having said that, I definitely prefer the original voice.

Search for the old US National Weather Service "Paul" voice, dubbed "Igor" by many. Usually preceded by three ear-busting chirps, then the dreaded "EAS Tone Of Doom" afterwards (the old CONELRAD alerting tone for nuclear attack). Still in constant use for natural disasters.

The UK's Handel System, with "Attack Warning Red" is the Brit equivalent.

The previous ship computer voice was way better.

- More clear pronunciation
- more pleasant, intimate sounding voice

What gives? why change what was great to this?

New voice:

- cold, almost harsh voice
- unclear pronunciation.
- "retracteted" is so obvious a mistake...

what are FD's sound people smoking?

Or is it all about making a cold harsh world, where loitering is punishable by death and even your ship computer can't sound friendly?

Ooh yes, loved her when she used to say, "drive charging". So sexy and to the point. Yes baby, charge my drives up.

Hate her now makes me cringe every time I jump when she goes, "friendship drive charging".

FD if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I agree it sounds awful. Nomatter how you listen to it. It really needs to be changed.

Using my NAD C390DD2 with a pair of Dali Concept 8 via the optical output from the PC just makes it even worse to listen to.
