Ships Shield dynamics in ED.

No other way to build it. It is the APA’s that take the power. It is an experiment. Something to have a play with. Plan to try out everything in the game at some point. What did they do to APA’s that nerfed them? Are the small Multis the Retributor?
The small multi's are called Enforcers.
APA's were never that great to begin with but they were great to use TLB with but TLB got nerfed so now they're kinda useless.

I miss the Kornelius Briedis' videos when he explored all kinds of data on ED: the real turning rates of Anaconda vs Vette, different engineering options and their effects etc. His work was really good and it dismantled many myths around different mechanics.

Enforcers, got it. Lots of PP modules still to unlock. Will add it to the list. Thanks.

They cut it's speed and rotationals by one-sixth and it's base shield strength by one-third, about five months after release.

Prior to this, the Python was far and away the best combat ship in the game. It was too close to the Vulture in rotationals, too close to the FDL in speed, and too close to the Anaconda in durability.
Well I suppose there has to be some difference between ships, but that seems to have created a situation where one ship dominates.
My Python has G5 dirty drag drives, but still wouldn’t take it as a combat ship. I mean it is ok to frag the odd NPC pirate, but wouldn’t use it for anything else.
I love the Vulture and plan to stick with it for now, master FA off and see how far I can take it. It is a great little killing machine though.

This change was done more than a year before Engineers, back when the dedicated combat ships consisted of the Eagle, Viper III, plus the newly released Vulture and FDL. The AspX, Imperial Clipper, Python, and Anaconda were multipurpose vessels that were frequently used for combat (though not many people could afford the Anaconda yet. The python was far above all of them in all-round combat capability (including PvP) and still had all it's multipurpose advantages. The nerf to the python explicitly prevented one ship from dominating, and things became much more varied in 1.3 and 1.4.

Other changes, starting with the wholly unnecessary FDL buff in 1.5, the changes to weapon thermal loading/stealth in 1.6/2.0, and the implications of Engineering in 2.1 and beyond are what skewed the balance back toward a handful of ships.

The Python still doesn't need any of it's changes reverted though. It's still one of the most popular ships in the game.

I think they should bump up the pitch rotation a bit but other than that I agree.

Thanks for the recommendations. I will check them out. I have seen some of Exigeous vids, and Vindicator Jones, but a lot of his stuff is out of date. Not interested in PVP for now. So I build ships for HazRes and CZ’s. Not a min/maxer either and have unconventional tastes in ships. Buy an AspX it is a great exploration ship, everyone says. Bought it, flew it a bit, hated it. It is now a module storage hanger queen. Don’t bother with the Clipper everyone said, useless piece of junk. Bought one, love it, despite its flaws. I have some of the popular ships. Python best ship in the game, all the vids say. Have one, appreciate it for what it is, a great medium size hauler. Have flown it a lot. Made some cash on Robigo runs and a bit of mining, but I can’t say I love flying it.
You should definitely try the Krait Phantom for exploration instead.

Clipper is great but the large hardpoint locations are crap. Not an issue if you use gimbals though.

Not saying you need to participate in PvP but you should definitely learn how to build PvP ships because they are the pinochle of combat and can wipe the floor with NPC's.

Prismatics, pacifiers, enforcers, Cytoscrablers and Emp hammers are the most important. Everything after that is kinda meh.
Cytos are on my list. I was playing around with a Viper Cyto/Hammer build for the ultimate small ship, big ship killer, but power was a problem again. Another build where armoured PP doesn’t cut it.

I wasn’t arguing the Python needed defnerfing (is denerf a word?!). As I said I appreciate it for what it is. A great hauler, very decent miner and it will do combat. The big PP and PD‘s mean you can run pretty much anything. You don’t even need to engineer the PP or you can drop down the class and engineer it to save weight. Which come to think of it maybe why D2EA pins G5 overcharged PP. Have noticed a lot of his builds drop down a class of PP.
The changes over the years make it quite confusing if you are new to the game. I remember looking at some videos on engineering when I started and then when I actually came to do some wondering why the screens looked different.

It's confusing to everyone. Half the time I'm not even sure if there is any one person at Frontier who knows what all the mechansims are supposed to do at any given point.

Kraits are on my list. I have a DBX for hopping around the bubble at the moment. Great little ship.
I do plan to try PvP at some point and how to engineer a ship for it, but I want to get better at flying first. No good having the ultimate PvP ship if you can’t hit anything with it. Which means getting good with fixed weapons and FA off. One of the reasons I wanted to try the APA is to see if I can get to the point where I can consistently land all 3 rounds.

before the exit krait MK2, I made an offer so that the fighter would finish the Python. And I was very surprised at this possibility in Krait MK2.

If you get the itch to try PvP, you could easily start whoopin butt today with this. We'd love to see you in San Tu.

San Tu is a system and it's the PvP hub on PC. If you're on console than you're gonna have to find the PvP community.

Not really. They look cool but that's about it
Ok. I am on PC. So just turn up in system and post on local chat? Or is there a more formal system with organised events? I hear you can also dock at Jameson’s and post in local chat you are looking for pews! As in pew pew, not ecclesiastical furniture!

Usually you can just land a Chomsky and ask for a fight in local chat. There's also a more formal system but we'll get to that later.
