Ship design suggestions

I totaly disagree.

Carrier feature is a docking bay. If something like a corvette size ship could dock something. It need a lot of ship volume not avaible for other features.
So it lot weaker spects then non dock having corvett. that is the balance.

A heavy fighter build around one capital ship canon. Mike also sense. it makes it slow less agile slow fire rate but give it a great punch against bigger ships bigger then a fighter. But any multirole fighter beats it. That is the balans.

In space the difference is not that much between a carrier or battleship there is no need for flight deck. So balteship carrier hybrid would make more sense.
The difference would be the ratio bigguns vs docking hangars

A 4km long battle ship can have it all. But ik makes lot slower and very expensive

There is also this balanse. Big vs many small even out. Also by price.

I don't think we disagree. You're also addressing size issues that I hadn't considered. You are quite right of course.
 
Ok, here's a design iv had for yrs. is based on the Cobra, still WIP and sadly i only have a basic paint package :(

Cobra MK5

Length 54m
width 68m
Decks 2
Crew 4
Cargo bays 4,
central and aft bays 40ts each, port and starboard bays 20ts each or 2 bays (central/aft) and 4, 2 birth passenger cabins
FTL Drives, class 1 to 6 hyperdrive, range 5 to 30ltys or class 1 to 6 military drive, range 7 to 42ltys
sub light drives, 2 fusion gravermetric drives with 5 emitters per drive, rated at 20G's forward/reverse thrust and + 5G's counter gravitational (optional Plasma re-heat afterburners and thrust vectoring)
Weapons, 4 bi directional Missile tubes (optional auto reload magazine for total 12 light missiles) 4 external heavy missile hardpoints. 3 forward and 1 aft weapon hard points for gimble mounted beam or pulse cannons. 4 retractable light point defence turrets with single 10mw beam or 3 4mw pulse or 2 5mw beam per turret. optional aft mine deployer instead of rear gun.
Shields, 6 shield generators as standard but upgradable at cost of cargo space (optional gravitic mass deflection shielding upgrades)(uses a -gravity field to repel or deflect incoming projectiles or particles)

I think a 4km ship would be way over sized! but as for a battleship/carrier, you just need to think of something like the battlestar Galatica! according to common agreed specs, that comes in at about 1600m. and seeing something like that jump in would be enough to make any Commanders cargo bay fill up with fertilizer ;)

Well there's plenty of basic designs I have for ships that would fit into the Elite universe, Had a few 3D models saved someplace, but nothing to render them on at the moment, ill have a look for them and see if i can find someone with 3DMAX or lightwave.

Next up will be a larger version of the eagle mk3 ;)
