I've just had a slightly odd thing happen. I just flew out to Sagittarius A* for the first time in my Asp, which was equipped with an SRV. After flying around the black hole for a little while, I headed to a nearby system and landed on an ice world. I'm pretty sure I left my ship in its usual configuration. I got in my SRV and headed off across the ice. I did not dismiss the ship, as I was playing in solo.
After a while (enough time to find and collect three meteorites, plus put the baby to sleep) I started playing again where I had left off (I left the game on during my absence). After a few minutes a message came up: "ship destroyed."
After a "what the ..." moment, I checked the panel and found the ship was not there. So I'm left stuck in my SRV in the back of beyond. I hope sometime in the future someone'll come across Commander Discjirm III and place some flowers on my icy grave. And perhaps kick the wreckage of my Asp and say: "You piece of rubbish"
Did I do something stupid, or might this be a bug? I've not too much lost (just four days play, plus my deepest space journey yet), but I won't make a voyage into the deep black with an SRV until I work out what happened.
But if it isn't a bug, I'd love Frontier to put something in the game saying *why* your ship was destroyed, particularly if you are far away from it in the SRV.
Anyone had their ship spontaneously explode in a similar manner? I'm pretty sure all the systems were stable when I left the poor thing ...
Edit: but dang, this game is dangerous ....![]()
It seems odd that you're stuck on the planet in your SRV when your ship was destroyed. I was under the impression you would end up back at the station or at least see an insurance screen. So it does sound like a bug.
This might seem like a silly question, but have you tried to recall your ship? It's worth seeing if the option is there and the "Ship Destroyed" message wasn't actually telling you the truth.

Thanks everyone.
What's the best way to raise this with support? Through the bugs forum or is there another part of the site better suited?
If it was an NPC attack, then exploring has just got a whole load more tricky ...
Cheers.
Just realized that this thread is from 2015! lol! This would be my reply to anyone having this issue though...
Try BOOTING UP IN ED 1.6 INSTEAD of Horizons! (Assuming you have already tried quitting and rebooting in 2.1?)
I don't see how the game could launch without giving you some kind of ship to fly, and since 1.6 does not support planets, it MUST spawn you in space in something or at a station somewhere. Even if it isn't the one you lost.
