Ship Destroyed

I see this is getting dragged off topic into yet another "bash Fleetcomm" thread. Good luck with that.

This is a thread about a pilot on the expedition who was destroyed, and as such it is well within bounds (and forum rules) to discuss the reasons why this occurred.

After a week of travelling to the next waypoint I arrived this morning and landed only to be attacked and destroyed, losing about 100 million in descovery fees loads of first person descoveries and I have lost the lot. I really feel like packing this game up when this happens as I had no warning (I was landed) we were told to come here. I have no armaments as I am exploring. I wish I could do something but no doubt they wont listen really off, not only that but I am back in Omega mining 3000 lys away from where I was.

"Lying and trolling" sounds pretty aggressive there, Rock. In fact, I think that it might have strayed into "ad hominem" territory.

A couple thoughts occur to me: the post you guys refer me to really doesn't say that anyone new has actually been accepted into Fleetcomm from the back end of the list, just sort of "If you don't want to wait go solo or Mobius" which really isn't the same thing. And whatever the reason for the delay a whole bunch of explorers who couldn't get into (or didn't know how to get in) were destroyed as a result. Like, well over 2000 at this point. You don't seem to care though and that's fine by me, I just think that it might be instructive to some on the fence to see who the real callous players are in this misadventure, because your attitude (and I would say Fleetcomms in general) seems to be quite clearly: if you fly in Open you deserve to be destroyed.

Oh geeze... it's a computer game. Our characters are 1s and 0s in a database. There is no real life consequence to getting killed in game aside from time lost... oh wait, the time lost was being spent on the game anyways.

Play in Open, accept the possible results. Period.

As for me, I am not in Fleetcomm. Normally I do play in Open, but for DW2 I am 100% in a PG precisely because I do not feel like dealing with the consequences of Open. That is my choice.

If someone wants to play in Open, awesome! Want to play in a PG, great! Solo? Heck yeah, enjoy yourself.

That does not mean that, knowing the consequences, other players need to care one iota what happens to anyone else. Can it suck, sure... but it is each player's individual responsibility to deal with.

Other players can help mitigate bad choices made, but there is no way we can protect everyone from everything they choose to do, nor should we. It's Elite: Dangerous, not Elite: Nanny-State-keep-you-wrapped-in-a-bubble-for-your-own-good.

I really can't see what you get out of this. I mean, seriously, there is no skill or achievement, not even any role-play scenario, you just destroy somone's enjoyment for what - nowt.

There are lots of solipsists about. Me, me, mine.
He is probably lying about doing the deed as well.

It's alright. Mr. Barron is just experiencing some lingering phantom pain from his former membership in Fleetcomm. This too will pass.

I doubt he's lying. It takes a certain type of person not to be bored senseless after killing more than one or two ships that present zero challenge.

He's persistent anyway. I'll give him that. He's like Elite's very own Katie Hopkins. Just ignore him and he'll go away. Unfortunately, all it takes is one person to cry in chat or on the forums about the gankers and they take it as evidence that they're having a much wider effect.

Like bald fat men in expensive cars they're overcompensating for something....

Heya, Sorry this has happened to you. I know how frustrating it is to come back to find your ship destroyed, even if it wasn't by an enemy player action.

I once died in supercruise because I left my ship facing towards the star while I went off and came back to learn my ship was destroyed... likely because it burnt up. :p

Exploration is dangerous and ultimately, no one else is responsible for our fate but ourselves.

There's a lot that can be done from here on out but I hope that you'll continue your journey, now much wiser to the possibility that someone could attack you (this was in open right)

Here is the Distant Worlds Survival Handbook that myself and a whole lotta folks created together.

If you're looking to joining a private group, There are a few options other than fleetcomm at the moment. I believe Mobius is still open at the moment.

And the constant drumbeat of "You are not welcome in Fleetcomm" rolls on. Because that's what it is, despite DWE admins trying to put a nice face on it. What's the point of even going on an "expedition" if you can't actually play with and interact with the other members?

I killed you, you where just sat there and my T10 was looking for its next meal(shes a big girl), hell you didn't even try to take off. my suggestion next time is to fit some tank so you don't lose all that data...

Maybe because he was making a brew and did not expect someone to shoot him while he was clearly not going to fight back...

But so long as you enjoyed yourself that's all okay then.

Oh cut the crap. Fleetcomm is not closed, applications were temporarily suspended. A lot of us are doing DW2 in other groups anyways. Stop trying to make mountains out of molehills, you're embarressing yourself.

so what's stopping you from creating your own pg and inviting your own friends along to join you? I'm not in the mobius or fleetcom pg, I was invited to an independent group by kind souls i got to talking in open with along the way and there are a gang of us in there flying together and thoroughly enjoying dw2 and looking forward to each weekend meetup. if you didn't complain so much maybe someone will be kind enough to invite you to their group? But please cheer up, its just a game :)

Don't give up. Some of us are still at WP3. Get Mobius access if the Fleetcomm PG is not available to you.

We'll wait for you if needed. Don't let them win.

It's a move, very true, and tedious to boot.

Best words I can give you are to saddle back up and catch up as quickly as you can. As long as you're still out in the black scanning stuff (and more importantly - enjoying yourself - as opposed to engaging in exceptionally tedious activity like engaging/shooting the least well prepared targets that you can find, <facepalm>...)

The Credits you may have "lost" are just a drop in the ocean of the mega-millions you will reap if you rejoin the expedition and travel to Beagle and back, so nothing really is lost. Unless you let this small hiccup put you off. The saving grace is that you aren't *that* far out yet. Imagine if that had occurred +beyond+ the core?

One more thing to address...

I mentioned that engaging fish in a barrel is exceptionally tedious. Well, I'm expecting a response to that statement. I'm hoping for one, actually, because I have a follow up comment when that response happens that will cheer up us explorers and have us grinning and chuckling no end.

Seriously, get back out there pronto and await the cheering up post sometime soon.

Yours Aye

For the OP - probably not much of a consolation but on DWI I made 186 million from the best part of 7000 jumps and 7000 systems visited. I've already made 143 million on DWII so this one is going to be absolute money pit with the new exploration pay outs. I feel your loss for the new systems discovered etc. though.

He'll get that money back, though. So it's all good :)
