Ship explodes, go directly to chango, do not pass go, do not collect 200 credits

So I was docking at Chango dock if I'm not mistaken. I'm at 100% hull and shields. I'm in the middle of the station going probably 10 meters a second. It would have taken me 15-20 seconds to hit anything. Suddenly the station disappears and I immediately throttle down to 0. I do not move. Within 10 seconds it comes back. I regain full control. I check my surroundings by just rotating. I decide the cost is clear when my hud disappears and my nice ship lady says "Shields Offline. Eject. Eject." I explode. I lose my eagle and I don't have enough credits to rebuy it. What. The. :):):):). So does anyone know how I can avoid this next time? Or how to prevent it in the first place? I spent a good 9 hours that have all just been washed away.

To who would say "Well that's the nature of Elite, don't put all your eggs in one basket to prevent losing everything." I wouldn't be frustrated had I been killed by pirates or fed fighters. I wouldn't be frustrated if I had crashed into a sun. I'm frustrated because I had no control over the issue. A purely technological bug that just ruined all my progress.

I would have had enough, but a mission that wanted me to bring some sort of enhancer paid me less than what the damn thing was worth. It didn't occur to me that Frontier would put in a quest that would be a net loss no matter what you do, apart from finding the resource floating in space, and even if I did, it would have been more profitable to just sell it at the store. I'm not too mad about that though, it's a Beta. Where I start to get mad is the threat of just losing everything for no reason.

I'm %99 sure frontier doesn't give out in game compensation like CCP does with EvE Online, so I'm sol. Anyone one else have this issue? Or perhaps some tips on bagging credits fast.

P.S. I'm not going to stop playing, stuff happens. It's just really annoying. Elite is a wonderful game, I just drew the short straw.

Yup I had something similar happen to me.

I was busy in the Commodity Market looking for stuff to buy and sell. After exiting the menus, I was totally surprised to find myself in space. I looked down towards my dashboard and it still said I was docked and I could select Station Services, Hangar or launch.

Like you, my throttle was 0. I was just simply dumbfounded and didn't move for a few seconds. Then, I heard "Eject Eject Eject" and I got blown up... with my newly bought cargo :(

Side note: you should have sold it at the store! Won't do your reputation much good but it's a dog eat dog world out there!

From my understanding this happens due to the way the servers are set up. The first person in the instance is actually in some capacity hosting the instance. If they log out of Elite while other people are in that instance the whole universe implodes and matter ceases to exist for everyone else.

I am sure that using FD's servers as a proxy to locally hosted games is just a temporary measure because it does introduce a lot of problems in a game of this scale. Now that I wrote that it also solves a lot of problems, maybe it's the lesser of two evils.

Anyway keep your chin up, and as soon as you see a station disappear log out and log back in, you should still be in the same area when you come back, just with a refreshed instance.

I suspect 90% of the issues currently are the matchmaking and other master servers falling to bits. Producing all kinds of good debugging and performance tuning data at the same time though, so just be patient.

Yep - not that it helps you now, but for anyone else. If a station disappears on you and you are still inside it. Save & Quit ASAP :) Otherwise anything* could happen.

* generally involving explosions, lasers, flying cargo canisters etc. etc.

Happened to me a couple of times last night. Docked, shopping then eject eject...

Even had one instance when I flew into a station after docking request and all I got was a green mist then nothing, then eject eject.....

Beta Testing.

Ouch. That sucks. I was annoyed I died once.

Pirates really don't seem to be a huge threat right now. Has anyone noticed that? Any time I'm thrown out of super cruise, I just put two power in system 4 in engine, use engine boost and jump out before they can engage. Haha currently my only threat is spontaneous combustion. Ohh well. Thanks for shedding some light on the matter.

I've worked my way passed where I was, 35k credits and a hauler. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to pull in some big capital? I'm looking at picking up a cobra when I get the chance, mostly for trading. Is that a good move? Or should I just go to the type 6?
