Ship for first Sag A run?

If you want to run to Sgr A*, take a stripped down 'conda. AspX and DBX can play along in the same category - fast and boring.

If you want to go slightly slower, but infinitely more comfortable, take a Dolphin or an Orca. You don't need redundancy to Sgr A*, with stations every 4 kly. And if you can avoid ramming stars or planets or insta-killing your SRV, you don't need any redundancy at all in a Dolphin.

The only advantage the AspX has over the DBX (for exploring) is the fuel scoop.

Well technically, the AspX also has one more internal slot. So if a set of double AFMUs (or some cargo space, or whatever) is desirable, the AspX gives slightly more space to work with. But the DBX is a fine explorer too, and much cheaper (if money matters at this stage). But the DBX's limitation of a size-4 scoop, versus the option to use a 6 on the AspX is definitely a noticeable difference.

deep down inside my inner man child is screaming Cobra, all I need to do is hit up some engineers to get FSD range up and reduce mass on items and off I go.

I did a 650kly trip right round the edge in my Mk III. I launched when 1.3 was live so that was stock - no engineers, no jumponium. Sgr A* with an engineered one not at all a problem.

Now I'm making my first trip to Sgr A* in a fully armed, A-rated python.

If you want to break some records then a stripped down, engineered to the max ship is what you'll need - for everything else there's only one consideration that really matters. "Do I like to fly this ship?"

Thank you for all the replies, I'm off to the Monkey Head nebula, going to play safe and use the AspE for my first outing.
