Newcomer / Intro Ship integrity?

By experimentation.
Shoot a repaired ship and note how much damage is done
Lower the integrity
Shoot the ship with the same weapon from the same range

Yeah. I've read it before. But what's the source? Can you see those lower numbers in game? (the 30% thing and not the integrity indicator). Is it in the manual? I was trying to find any official sources on it but only found reddit gossip :/

Been discussed in depth with the devs on multiple occasions in the past, run a forum search. Dommarraa is correct regarding 0% = 30% hull reduction, however it wont directly cause module failures + integrity degredation still occurs if shields are up.

Loss of Integrity is caused by hull stress, just like aircraft/Ships/cars or any vehicle that is put under strain from daily use. Only difference in ED is you will never experience a catastrophic hull failure if you never repair the micro fractures. In fact I rarely repair it on my explorer and freighter ships, completely unnecessary.

Looks still like a myth to me :)

Who did the experiment?

No experiment, we directly discussed it at length with the designers. Ship integrity degradation was part of a beta test a long while back. How long have you been on these forums?

Regarding the "he got hits on me while I was at 1%" - once the fsd countdown (4...3...2...1...) starts you're invulnerable. Also there was a possibility the hits did low damage, you don't die until 0.0%. Which leads to funny vids with people making it out alive with 0% hull, but this is rounding at play and in reality they have something from 0.0 - 0.49% hull left.

You choose who to believe that is your prerogative but just wanted to say that 777Driver is VERY knowledgeable.

I am a explorer and these are good questions for something I can not see unless I am docked at a station.

Also wonder if shields have anything to do with ship integrity?

My last around trip of 2000ls+ took 25% off ship integrity, I am coming back from a trip of 7000ls+ so will update this reply with information.
01/04/2014 Current trip 8000ls+ and still only 25% off ship integrity.
The bigger the ship the more integrity cost.. my vette cost me more tgank my old krait or conda, average 70k each trip to davs ..

Aye - ship integrity is basically wear and tear as Greyshadow said. It doesn't affect ship modules at the moment (this may be coming, not sure) but it does reduce your hull strength, by up to 30% if not repaired. Probably as well to fix it before going after Aga Khan again. :)

This information is correct.

Aaaand that's what's you get for not checking the date of the post you're replying to :D
