Ship interiors

i was wondering about something. because in the new mode you can walk around and explore more wich i think is really cool. and ive been thinking about t his alot and looking at star citizen. i think it would be really cool if u could walk inside the ship too, and add that in a new DLC (for some extra money(like oddyssey)) and then i was wondering how would it work with the optional internals. well if you would make standerd designs for size 1 storage size 2 storage etc. do it for all optional internal, and then make designated spaces inside the ship for example my favourite the imperial cutter, the fighter hanger and planetary vehicle bay are at the bottem. so i would focus on putting in variables for those like (if player has size 4 hanger--> put size 2 (optional internal) on both sides IF walking space equals more than 2 meter. otherwise put 2 size 1 (optional internal) on both sides) and would focus the bigger parts at the back and center of the ship.

Surprised this has not been mentioned before ...

Welcome to the forums!
One word of warning: there are more threads on this subject than there are letters "p" on these forums, so please do not take it personally if you are going to get sarcastic responses, humorous takedowns or plain hostility!
It's not you, it is just that this very subject has been already discussed to death for a number of years!

Don't feel bad, there's a free Anaconda currently available at Hutton Orbital if it will make you feel better! Just kidding, anyway, no hint of doom in that post so you're doing better than a good swathe of current users already!

A lot of us want them, we are not likely to ever get them because reasons. It matters not in the end I suppose. There are other games that let you scratch that itch.

The biggest problem is that there's just not that much valid interior content you could do. The game needs is a way to get legs involved with ships SOMEHOW, but all the things legs could have done have long since been done by other modules, like AFMUs and Repair Limpets and Hatchbreakers and such. If you boarded an enemy ship, for example, what would you do then? There's nothing you could do that wouldn't totally mess up the existing gameplay.

That, combined with the massiveness of ships; designing interiors for them would be a massive endeavor.

my bad. didnt know it :(
This is a topic that needs to be beat to death. Fdev will not listen unless we make this THE big ticket item for 2022. I always support these posts as i believe without them Fdev will not listen/care. They need to know that this is what we, the playerbase want from elite.

There are plenty of gameplay loops. That boost existing content and many that can be totally new and exciting ones.

Like what?

The two most often mentioned are ship repairs and boarding.

Ship repairs would basically just replace repair limpets and AFMUs, which isn't good. The last thing you need is content that replaces other content. Even worse if it makes players feel FORCED to play a prolonged repair minigame because then they can replace their repair limpets with hull reinforcements and be more powerful.

Boarding wouldn't work because what would happen if you get boarded in the middle of a fight. Either you get up to fight off the intruder and get shot to death, or you stay seated to fight the enemy ship and get shot to death. If you can only board disabled ships, they'll just self destruct. If you can disable self destruct, you can grief people endlessly. If you can only board specific boarding scenarios, why have them on ships in the first place? Some people propose having a crew to defend yourself, but a crew can never fight as well as a human, so at best you've got a countdown to death, which isn't any better.

And...what else is there? Talking to your passengers? Playing the sims with your cabin? Those are very small features for a very big amount of development time.

I appreciate that Odyssey needs to bring legs into closer contact with the existing space game, but I can't see any way for ship interiors to provide that need.

If someone tried to board u ur ship is fast enough to throw them directly off your hull. Just boost, FA off and pitch/roll. Content adds:
Missions- RESCUE disable a NPC ship by destroying its FSD, or thrusters. Board, destroying any baddies, and rescuing hostages.
REPAIR POWER PLANT- AFMUs cannot do this power plant damage is dangerous.
HULL REPAIR- get up, eva and weld cracks on your hull. (Can fix up to 20% wity reduced integrity)
SALVAGE MISSIONS- go to a derelict ship, cut open a panel and get a specific item. There may be pirates here so watch out.

Welcome aboard Commander. A lot of people want this kind of thing, me included but at the end of the day it does also have to be right for the Devs too, or there won't be a game to develop at all! Basically they're looking for gameplay ideas, things to put in the ship to expand the gameplay, rather than just eye candy that you walk around maybe once, then never really look at again. Things to interact with. Your idea for dividing up the ship into modules is bang on though. o7

Ship boarding would prolly need to be a pve loop I think. There is reason for interiors. Some choose to disregard them. Don't change that some people want them.

I am split between ship interiors and heavier atmospheres/reentry effects. I really want both but if its 1 or the other i would probably choose ship interiors as the fade to black really perterbs be. Fade to black is very weak and un imaginative. AT LEAST give me a cutscene of my cmdr walking into the ship instead of nothing at all.

Why bother having it inside a ship if it's npcs only? Much easier anywhere else.

REPAIR POWER PLANT- AFMUs cannot do this power plant damage is dangerous.
HULL REPAIR- get up, eva and weld cracks on your hull. (Can fix up to 20% wity reduced integrity)
These are not things people would do anywhere near enough to justify the huge investment interiors would require.

SALVAGE MISSIONS- go to a derelict ship, cut open a panel and get a specific item. There may be pirates here so watch out.
Again, this doesn't benefit from interiors, and we have exterior salvage already.

And the little fact that in this spaceship game we can walk in everything Except our spaceships. And all of these things DO benefit from interiors. There is a reason 90% of the community wants this. If you are ok with the fade to black trash ok, but most people dont like half "features".

I want the devs to spend their time on features with actual value, not pointless details most players will look at once and never use again.
