Ship launched...surface miner?

A small ship, like the Viper IV, can pick up cargo and fragments from the surface, scan data points and both alert and shoot down skimmers. Very convenient when you're just hunting PoIs on a planet.

wait what? I can grab cargo/materials with a ship? Does it have to be small or are we talking about practicality?

It's more about practicality. You could do it in theory with the Anaconda if you have the room and go by instruments only. The open cargo hatch has a certain area where it sucks in any targeted cargo, all it needs is to bring those two together. A small ship just has an easier time at that.

I was hoping the "mining update" would include deployable surface mining rigs (like the ones you find on planet surfaces).

If you were looking for, say, Selenium, you'd find a planet with a high concentration of it, land, deploy the mining rig and then leave it for a day, then you'd come back and (if nobody else had found it and looted/destroyed it) you'd have a heap of mat's including some Selenium.

But hey, we got a bunch of new ways to explode stuff instead, so it's all good, amirite? [sad]

That's the one thing FDEv specifically said they would not do. They don't want any form of passive income, because it may mess with the game's economy [haha]
