Ship Layout Customisation?

Good morning all!

So I've done a bit of searching around these forums and haven't seemed to be able to find the information I'm looking for. If this is a repeat post I apologise.

I've been wondering about a couple of things with regards to potential future customisation. Namely:

1. Are there any plans to enable players to customise ship module layout? For example: I have ship that has certain hardpoint/utility/internal slot layout. I would like to specialise this and modify my two large hardpoints to be three medium hardpoints instead and add two extra utility slots (again, only as an example).

I feel this would really personalise the ships we acquire as we can customise them much more deeply to suit our individual playstyles. I'd love to have a Vulture that has eight small multicannons lol

2. Deep customisation for cockpits. By this I mean I would love the ability to choose different looking sticks and throttles and, deeper even, custom layouts of buttons (just visuals of course). Could go one step further and allow us to choose custom panels and control boxes (physical ones, not UI panels).

I think these would go a long way to making the game feel more personal. I'd love to be able to go to ship meets and show off my stuff to other players who can in turn walk around my ship and see stuff I've done.

As far as I know there are no plans for this right now.

Your first point will never happen I bet, because that would make ship design pure hell for FDev.

Your second point might perhaps be possible in the future.
Customization like that might be great for some extra revenue.

Visually ships have hardpoints and utility mounts that are there even if nothing is put in them. You can guarantee if you let players choose someone will make an Anaconda with 40 utility mounts and nothing else. Or a ship like the Viper with a huge hardpoint thats bigger than the ship :p

Ahh yes...although that would be hilarious would it not? Think of the way some people customise their cars...I feel it would be an accurate reflection of reality 😂

Hilarious yes but probably a balance nightmare on top of design nightmare. I'm in a sidewinder with nothing equipped but a huge plasma accelerator, firing it once makes my ship overheat to 5000%!

At the very least, they could update the look of the current controls as everything else is gorgeous...except those.

Fluffy dice would be amazing...they could be organic ones that are alive...possibly bioluminescent. The perfect long-haul companion for the discerning space-trucker.
 
Be nice to have different HUD designs (I mean the front displays) in different ships. Same basic lay-out just a little different design.

I think someone explained in another thread how it's probably that all manufacturers had to comply with Federal Regulations that state all ships must be fitted with a standard UI and HUD layout. Nevertheless, that would be pretty sweet.

First point will never happen. All the ships internal spaces are technically accounted for, your example of switching 2 large to 3 medium likely won't work because you can't physically fit them without messing with other ship systems.

Second point, well we've been asking from it ever since the ability to change the HUD colour was discovered.

For the first point, what if future content updates included ship variants? Take Vulture for example. Vanilla Vulture has two large hardpoints and four utility slots. Vulture Bravo Variant could have three small and two medium hardpoints, and only two or three utility slots. Doing something like this would give a feeling that the player has their own unique version of the ship, but FD can control it so it could still be balanced and so we don't end up with a Viper that has one huge hardpoint and nothing else.

For the second point, it's a bit of a bummer. I'd love to see an update to the cockpit controls and other parts of the interior that have remained the same since the beginning.
