News Ship naming – transmission intercepted.

I think FD is taking this stuff way, way too far. The store was supposed to be a way to get some cosmetics if you want to support FD. I dont think the idea was that you'd have to spend E20 if you want to get a paintjob, a ship name and a shipkit. That would end up at over E500 for all ships, plus the avatar stuff they'll no doubt bombard us with. I find it rather offensive to see such basic features being thrown behind a paywall, espescially a paywall that makes Bethesda's Horse Armor a great deal in retrospect.

The idea is great but I'm sure if u want the Name of your ship on your Commander then you must buy a plate from the online store. hahahaha :D

probably have to buy a special suit to which you can attach the purchases name too. "Add the name of your ship to your avatar for only E15!"

Cocalarix (I never did find out if I pronounce your name right?),

You will be able to name your ship and that will show in the HUD and in multicrew game UI. To add the name to your hull, you will need to pick up a name plate from the store.

Hope that helps.

Zac

Jesus.

Is this a full priced game, or not? Is Horizons a full priced expansion pass, or not?

Yet i have to pay extra just for some basic stencil lettering on my hull? Ridiculous.

Other games we all know and um love are charging thousands for one ship and often just for a nice JPEG! and other games have charge far more for in game items, here just a few of the extreme examples.

Eve Online Revenant Super Carrier – $9,000. ...
Echoing Fury Mace from Diablo 3 – $14,000. ...
Age of Wulin Sword – $16,000. ...
Ethereal Flames Pink War Dog in Dota 2 – $38,000. ...
Amsterdam from Second Life – $50,000. ...
Crystal Palace from Entropia Universe – $330,000. ...
Club Neverdie in Entropia Universe – $635,000.

Rebel factions appear to have obtained secret information regarding the naming of ships and adding those names to Commanders’ hulls.

We can confirm that this information is correct and naming of ships is a feature that will be added to Elite Dangerous: The Commanders (2.3). Everyone will be able to rename their ship for free in game and there will also be the option to purchase cosmetic name plates which will allow Commanders the ability to display that name on your ship’s hull via a special decal. These additional features will be made available in the near future with a catalogue of designs. We’re looking forward to seeing you display your ship names with pride.

I can also confirm that the character limit for ship naming is determined by width.

Have a good evening.

Zac

I'm guessing Ship Names don't have to be unique, since they'll be tied to the CMDR name, is this accurate?

Kickstarter backers asked for it to assist with paying for server costs which is usually covered in a monthly charge for MMO games. Alternatively we could have pay to win. Take your pick :)

My ship will be Kevinator, the mighty destroyer of all Kevin.

Different name plate per ship? Or one name plate to rule them all?

"Others do it too!" is not much of an excuse, IMHO.

My foot, thats a false choice. *some* cosmetics were okay to be put on the store, but we're have by far MOST of it behind a paywall, and its a lame one as well.

so how else do you want them pay for the servers?

With the money we gave them? You know, the money they report in the trade report?

"We made 20 million, but if Jonny doesnt pay E6 for a blue paintjob we'll have to turn off the servers!"

Bill

*And Fdev approved too... dont need 3 yr olds with naughty doodles everywhere do we?[rolleyes]

Thats not the excuse, its just showing that FD are pretty good with prices

Compared to star citizen paying over 50 quid for some ships, Im happy to pay a couple of pounds for a skin or a nameplate

I generally choose not to because Im skint :D

those servers aren't free to run.

Jeez people stop expecting something for nothing.

No, servers aren't free. Neither is the game. Neither is Horizons.

FD are not a cosmetic factory, they are a professional game studio. If they cannot fund the costs of game making, they shouldn't be in business. Which is a moot point of course, since we know FD are doing well financially. FD are not Activision, but they are not Hello Games either.

Are these the actual numbers? $9,000 dollars for a ship? US dollars??
