Ship warehouse 😃✈🛩🛫🛬🚀

Hi Cmdrs.
I just had a thought that I think would be a cool addition to the menu.
Called something like ship warehouse or something.

So in short when you are at the menu screen once logged in there would be a menu option which would take you to a massive warehouse of sorts where by the game puts all of your ships as they are set up in game in this space and you could move the camera around to look at all your ships in one place and be able to see sizes and shapes in comparison where they are near each other and can zoom in or out and move all around in a well lit space. Maybe even have option to deploy and retract hardpoints etc.

I know some of you will say you can already move around the ships in game but this place would have all of your ships in the same place at the same time.

Well I think it would be a cool idea.
What do you all think of this? And would it be something that you would like and use.

Would make more sense to have a simulator mode at stations, cmdrs are able to access and tour any ship in a giant simulated hangar, apply various outfittings to test. Pretty much a simulated station out in the middle of nowhere, no jump capability, nothing but the station and empty space. Perhaps give the ability to spawn various NPC's for testing.

Great ideas gents!

PGR3 had a feature like this - a garage where you could park all your cars and then walk around them, take pictures, and hang them on the walls - was simply awesome

Yeah that would be cool. But I'd want to see all of my ships in one place and in the same area so you can actually see the size and shape differences. I know it would have to be a massive place.
Maybe could do a mixture of both our ideas but have it accessed from the menu and available offline so you can do it when offline eg servers are down or internet down etc.

Yeah something similar. I think test drive had something similar to. And one of the early forza games?

Feature like "simulated outfitting" is in EVE online and I must say I miss it in ED, very useful tool.

I've been suggesting that since 2.0. People really need to be able to "try before they buy" considering how expensive ships get. And not just a "showroom view" but an actual simulation where you can equip the ship at various levels (all D rated, all A rated) and see how well it does in mock combat. The fact that so many people, including myself, always use the Betas to test ships/loadouts out (that aren't Beta specific) should tell the Devs something.

We already have stock training missions. How hard could a customized simulator add-on be? Failing that, they could leave the Beta servers open for this sort of thing. City of Heroes ALWAYS had their Beta Server up and available (save for when they were applying patches). Heck, some people even used that as their primary server - even though their characters could be permanently wiped at any moment. *sigh* I miss that game.

This would be an excellent use of cqc if they ever added skirmish matches using both normal ships and fighters against the AI...

I want to be able to clear all modules from all ships and then replace them as needed. I don't care if they have to be in the same place or if I have to pay transit costs from any that move. The fact that you can call for a ship or a module but not if it is equipped in the ship drives me bonkers!

Something like this could work...

Yep, something like that - perhaps you can rent/buy a private hangar at an orbital stations using in-game credits. If space legs is implemented, you should be able to walk around the hangar and inspect your ships, maybe buff out a few scratches or remove some mynocks. :)

Here's an idea for Frontier to make moar money. (highlighted for emphasis)

You can upgrade the appearance of your hangar with store bought upgrades such as:

Appearance themes - military, high tech, greasy workshop, raider junkyard etc.
Structures - gantries to walk above the ships, control room with view of the entire hangar, turntable to display your favourite ship etc.
Cool looking machinery - repair bays, ship washing station, ammo vehicles, astromech droids etc.
Lighting - spotlights, floor mounted lighting, multi-coloured disco lights...

They might actually do it if it makes them money. You know how they love their money grind site.

Something like this.

Something like this (as Star Citizen has clearly decided to commit to) would be neat with, say, player-made bases, I suppose. Elite Dangerous crossed with base-building sounds pretty neat to me.

But I mean...that's probably, if anything at all, long long long long term idea as things currently are.

Maybe they can just start with the simulated hangar with our own ships in on the main menu. And work from there.

It's not that simple, though. Many players have ships that are scattered all over the place and aren't in a single location. I myself continue to use sidewinders as special markers for particular systems I think are special enough that I want a different-color bookmark on them. So the conclusion I arrive to is if this idea were put in, it'd have to be of a central location where a player stores their 'main' ships.

I mean, I guess a simulated hangar that is there *JUST* for looks would be fine - but I worry it'd be prone to players going to the next step and asking for remote outfitting and being able to just magically teleport to their ships wherever their location may be, which is a big no-no.

All of this is just my own personal view, of course!

Thats what i mean just for looks. As in not in the game itself.

I also just buy sidewinders sometimes to mark a location lol.

This is a cool idea.. I like it.

I'd still settle for a better lit/movable camera in the Livery screen. I mean, you can't even see how the paint jobs and detailing are going to look before you buy the stuff!
