Does the new update not support HMD even I with older versions of the runtime?
I'm running 6.0.1 with Nvidia's 355 drivers and everything is nice and smooth. Hope this update doesn't spoil that!

Dont worry. He's almost certainly referring to the horrible auto yaw/roll/pitch centering that's in the 1.5 test build, which makes playing it in VR a big no no for most myself included. However a dev has since confirmed that this will be fixed for Horizons beta.

Turrets? Goliath shields and armor? Run from a Viper?? I don't think so. Maybe a VERY skilled FDL pilot could give you a run for your money but if even if you had to run, they couldn't even chase you because of your superior jump range, lol.
Oh, So it is useless for combat indeed...

It was announced in the newsletter quite a while back - I'm sorry I can't remember exactly which one but it was a good month or two ago. They said that 1.5 and Horizons would be a combined release.

This is the reason why they have rolled out 1.5 beta before Horizons - to force us to test the 1.5 stuff as if they roll out the beta all in one go, nobody will test the 1.5 only stuff much.

I don't know exactly why they are doing the main release all on the same day, but I would guess:
- Only one proper release go live to support instead of two (with Xbox release checks by MS etc).
- Lots of behind the scenes code does not have to be separate. If you look in the current beta 1.5, you can find a lot of Horizons stuff already in place but not active yet (e.g. people have seen new items of commodities that say they can only be sold for profit on the surface, slots in the outfitting for the planet landing module and so on.
- System needs to be tested for those who have not bought Horizons.

Sounds right. Thanks.

Both Vipers need a maneuverability buff. For small sized fighter/patrol ships they pitch like a pile of bricks stuck in molasses -- which should be reserved for the large ships.

For RES, the FdL works fine...actually, even the Vulture or any combat capable ship works fine.

I won't comment here how dull and immersion breaking RESs are (what the hell are these Anacondas doing among asteroids crawling with police? Don't tell me they are after stealing a few pieces of rock???)

However a Bounty Hunter should stalk his target, follow it, then take it down. I really would like to use the FdL for:
- Finding a target (PvP, player!) leaving a station.
- Using a Frameshift Wake Scanner to scan his wake (extra utility mount of the FdL come in handy).
- Follow him until he reaches his destination system.
- Interdict in supercruise. Then chase him (speed of FdL comes in handy) and take him down.
- I may need to follow his wake again, if he jumps away.

This sounds much more exciting than blasting mindless NPCs at RESs, right? But this can't be done for the simple fact that FdL has a jump range too short and can't follow anything... :(
With the firepower of the FDL you should be able to take out your target with the first interdiction.. the shorter jump range is the price you pay for firepower.. pick your targets wisely.
I believe it would be incredibly unbalanced to have a ship that can rip almost anything to shreds in seconds that can also follow you to the ends of the galaxy..
with the tweaks to maneuverability you should easily be able to take out player bounty targets with ease...

HOWEVER i took a break from following ED for a while and
this will only work if Bounty scans persist after frame shift drive
if they haven't fixed this then bounty hunting players is just broken.
simply because you do not have time to preform another scan after interdicting a player whom you already know has a bounty..
(assuming you scanned them at a port)

edit: someone whom has been following development more closely please clarify if this has been fixed..

I would rather know when 1.5.4 will be coming into the beta. 1.5 needs way more testing and cooking time. I also would like to see some more changes to both the corvette and cutter.

I'm guessing 1.5.4 will be rolled into the beta 2.0, they're so busy with that right now I don't see another iteration, and since Horizons will launch 1.5 and 2.0 at the same time, the 2.0 beta = horizons + 1.5.

There I was, frustrated at having to manually allocate mining fragments into my refinery in spite of the fact that I had several empty bins that should have been auto-filled, and I thought to myself "hmmm.... what we really need here is some minor text fixes and bobbleheads. That would really make this game"

I was going to pre-order the Horizon's beta last week but since they put so little effort into 1.5 and also delaying the beta, not to mention the release. I decided that I won't be getting Horizon's until next year or later. To top it off, they took the beta servers down for the weekend which was my only time to play it. $60 is a lot to ask just to land on planet. I want to see patch notes before I buy into it. 1.5 sucks to me so far, so why should I buy into Horizons? All we have seen is landing on the planet and racing around a dead empty station. /rant.

You understand you are not just getting beta access for 2.0 but also for every major update over the next year

Yes, I do. However, considering 1.5 to me was a complete flop with ships that were reused assets and little different variations on them. I am less then hopeful on Horizons now. I will wait and see the patch notes until I buy it. Everybody seems to jump on Horizons taking frontier at their blind word. I was pretty excited for Horizons up until 1.5. I then seen how bad 1.5 was. Lets hope 1.5.4 will get better. Maybe then I'll decide to get Horizons

You're reading too much into the 1.5 beta situation.

Understand that there were an estimated 50,000 NEW players over the few days due to the steam sale and 67% discount on ED 1.x. I suspect that putting resources into keeping the production instance up and running is more important than providing 1.5 beta access. I'd make the same call.

That said, boo-hooing that you lost a few days to test the new shiny thing and that you're going to take your marbles and go home now is unbecoming.

If you would prefer FD release 1 beta test product that's really Alpha quality and have you :):):):):)ing and moaning about how crappy the beta is then I suspect there's no satisfying you.

In this structure Beta code is not released before it's a certain level of not exploding. It's intended to stress test what is close to release code. If they have to do server side changes to support that (Changes you know NOTHING about, by the way) then they have to do those changes.

Would I like to be flying a federal corvette right now and blowing the pogees out of things? Sure. But not at the expense of either the production game, or the initial quality of the beta releases that come out.

Not a major problem obviously, but still. In galaxy map navigation panel, jump route modes could be simplified greatly: if we have effectively 5 distinct mapping modes in the navigation panel (eco, normal fast, boost 1, 2, & 3), why not make it a single slider covering all 5 options instead of 3 checkboxes and a slider?

My understanding was that the boost impacted the mode chosen, so "eco+boost 1", is different to "eco+boost 2" or "Normal + boost 1". Therefor you need both options to get the chosen combination.
Got to admit it feels a little overkill though.
