General / Off-Topic Ships Dog (Pet Lovers)

Per request, pics have been added to original post. For Prada and Jaeger I have puppy and Adult pics. Klaus was a rescue from a breeder as an adult (bought as a puppy and then returned 8 months later as skin and bones), so I only have an adult pic of him.

Enjoy!

To those who have lost 'family', get another furry person of a different species (so if you lost a dog, get a cat, and vice versa), as there should be no way to connect the new person to the past. The companionship is the most important thing, regardless of who provides it.

Actually an interesting story there.

My Prada is actually the 4th female canine to join our family. A few years back we had Mistress Wilhelmina (Rottie/Sheppard Mix). She was my Alpha and Omega and I miss her to this day. Anyways, we were on vacation in NYC for the holidays when she escaped from my In-Laws care and met an unfortunate end - on December 20th which also happens to be our Anniversary. When we got home my Father in Law tried to help us cushion the blow by getting us a new rescue girl - a Burnese Mtn. Dog puppy. This also proved tragic as she had not been properly immunized for Parvo and Distemper - she passed Dec 30th (my b-day).

After her passing we decontaminated the whole house with Lysol and even bleached the yard 4 times to make sure any disease did not spread. We also grieved for both of the girls we had lost.

Easter of the following year, my wife told me it was time for us to open our hearts again and provide a home for someone that needed it - so off to a different shelter I went. Once there I found 2 Sheppard puppies remaining out of a litter of 10, already immunized and neutered. The only requirement my wife had was that our new girl play tug of war, and while searching for an appropriate toy to test this Prada began tugging on my leather trench-coat. I smiled, picked her up and told her "You may not realize it yet, but you just hit the puppy Lotto". I completed the appropriate paperwork and took her home that day. It wasn't until I had gotten her home and my wife was looking over her paperwork that we noticed that her Date of Birth (as she was born in the shelter) was December 20th.

Needless to say I was a little creeped out as the coincidence was just a bit much. Surely this was just a coincidence - right? Over the years we have noticed that many of the mannerisims of our Mina are displayed by Prada. I cannot say for certain, but at times I do feel as if the Universe has managed to give back a piece of what once I had - and for that I will forever be grateful.

Thanks for the story, Hess, and you're right that is strange and cool. It's great that you look at it that way, and can find a comfort in it. I'm not superstitious as such, but I like it when things like that happen and I'll allow myself to see it as, well, at least more than a coincidence. Thanks for the pictures too, that's a great looking family :)

I'm at work and the proxy has filtered it out! Will check when I get home.

My first dog, Hayley, was a Bull Terrier and she was such a loving dog. Because of her, I wanted another female dog when I eventually got myself into a position to get a dog.

I have a daily struggle on FaceBook. I'm in all the local 'XX Dogs Home' groups and they post picture of the dogs that need to be adopted. I want them all :\
