Ships from the original Elite....

I wonder if we will be getting any of these soon? :D

PYTHON
One of the larger trading vessels manufactured in Inera Orbit Space by Whatt and Pritney ShipConstruct. Cabin accommodation is cramped and spartan in contrast to facilities for cargo and "alien environment" transport. Though slow and ponderous, the craft has powerful CC-Voltaire shields and Volt-Variscan Pulse lasers, earning it the nickname of the "space porcupine". Based on a prototype developed by Saud-Kruger AstroDesign, they are used for cargo ferrying between planet and space station, but can be modified to hospital ships, or orbiting prisons. From trawling newsletters and the game files, I'm expecting:

Already implented:

Sidewinder (from Elite, fighter, Falcon DeLacy)
Cobra Mk III (from Elite, general purpose, Falcon DeLacy)
Eagle (from Frontier, fighter, Core Dynamics)
Viper Mk III (from Elite, fighter, Falcon DeLacy)

We've seen art or models for:

Adder (from Elite, light smuggler, ?Zorgon Peterson?)
Type 7 (new, medium trader, Lakon Spaceways)
Dolphin (new, light liner, Saud Kruger)
Orca (new, medium liner, Saud Kruger)
Beluga (new, heavy liner, Imperial Gutamaya)
Python (from Elite, heavy trader, ?Core Dynamics?)
Fer-de-Lance (from Elite, bounty hunter, Zorgon Peterson)

I don't think (but would be delighted to be wrong, please post if you've got them!) we've seen art for:

Vulture (new, unknown, unknown)
Federation Corvette (new, military, ?Core Dynamics?)
Imperial Trader (from Frontier, heavy trader, Imperial Gutamaya)
Diamondback (?new?, unknown, unknown)
Cutter (new, unknown, unknown)

Which takes us to 24 ships, which is heartening.

I'm not entirely confident of the following identifications, particularly the Adder, but here goes:

A few errors I've noticed:

The Adder was manufactured by Outworld Workshops, a rogue breakaway company from Spalder and Prime, Inc.
Also, are you sure the Lakon Type 6 is the Transporter? According to the Elite manual, the Transporter's actual designation is Lakon Spaceways MC15 QuikTransport Shuttle. I will admit, the Type 6 bares a close resemblance to the Transporter, I'm not really sure if it is exact same ship.
The Python is manufactured by Whatt and Pritney ShipConstruct.
Last thing, the Viper Mark III, even though it does bare a close resemblance to the original Viper, it is, in fact, new.

As for the topic, it would be nice to see the rest of the Classic Elite ships added to the game. I kinda want to try a self-imposed challenge consisting of flying only Classic Elite ships. So far we do have the Sidewinder, Cobra Mark III, Viper (technically), Asp Mark II, and Anaconda. We are, however, missing a entry-level transport ship, the Adder, which I wish will be added on release.

And now I just realized something. A couple of the notes I wrote above are visible in the OP's post.

Made me wonder, how many ships there was in original Elite? The screeny of a collection of them I saw of (don't have address right now, will dig) had about 30, and Cobra, Eagle and bunch others which are in ED weren't in it.

There are 19 ships in the classic Elite. This includes the ships that have been mentioned in the manual (there's actually 18 ships, I think, in the manual, the Constrictor isn't mentioned in the manual, the list can also be 20 if you want to include the Thargon remote-controlled fighter).

Huh... only 19? Gotta been Elite 2 or somesuch then (was a pic of filled vector ships, not wireframe - no "curved vectors", just straight lines).

The possible "Fer de Lance" in the picture doesn't resemble a Zorgon Peterson design. I suspect that one is a Core Dynamics ship as it follows a similar styling to the Federation fighter (F63 Condor).

A wild guess is it could be a remake of the Harrier, another 'bird' ship which follows the Core Dynmics naming tradition.

The "Fer-de-Lance" had 12 people on board?
I am amazed, i never met more than 5 bounty hunters that
refrained from killing each other.:)

No matter how much it costs - I WILL get a Panther Clipper (I loved my 'Flying Brick' fortress) When it arrives there will be a lots of posts about being squashed in the docking window! :D
