Shipyards at Engineer Bases?

I did a quick search and couldn't find anything about this. I assume I understand why they are absent but is there a desire to see them implemented? Or is the lack of them part of the process?

I'd like to see them. Why? So we can transfer ships directly to Engineers.

Not sure if it's a "pay wall" done on purpose, so you have to manually fly ship after ship to them, or it's a simply a poor design. ie: There's no reason for the Ship Transfer option to be in Ship Yard! ie: You could transfer ships to anywhere then! - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...L-stations-have-a-shipyard?highlight=shipyard

Here's an example of how the "Ship Transfer" option could be outside the Shipyard therefore meaning you could transfer a ship to anywhere...

It would be nice with me having 3 billion credits but being Elite it isn't a big deal jumping from Founders World with a 10 percent discount then engineering it.

It would be a lot more convenient if engineers had shipyards, so you could get your ships delivered and upgraded all at the same time. I really hope it's being considered. Making it easier to access the games features is surely a good thing.

I guess for lore reasons, if the imaginary pilot delivering the ship hasn't met the engineer meet requirements then they wouldn't be allowed to land!

But we don't need a ship yard - which is surely where we buy/sell ships? - we just need the transfer option to bring our ships from elsewhere? That option could be offered everywhere! But the Ship Transfer option is buried in the Shipyard option on purpose/by accident.

Actaully there is a very good reason why transfer is part of the shipyard.

Notice there are no shipyards at outposts? That is to say the small stations that large ships can't land at? Yeah, it's so you can't transfer a ship to a base it literally can't launch from.

I don't think any planetary base has a shipyard, as these are only accessible with Horizons. What would happen to any ships you store there if you change to the basic game?!?

Plenty of planet bases with shipyards. ;)

I guess it's a design decision, but makes little sense - I end up jumping around engineers in a DBX and transferring all the ships to the nearest shipyard (sometimes in a nearby system), then just shuttling back and forth - doesn't add any fun.

Though it does mean that you always have to end up with your ship in a flyable state - maybe that's the reason.

Then simply deny transfer of ships too large for the current location to handle? I didn't specifically mention that as I thought it was a fairly obvious caveat?

As I said, quite simply, "Ship Transfer" could be offered everywhere, and not behind the "Shipyard" option - It's either the way we have it now due to a design choice, or a design accident.

Yep, makes no sense, it's just a nice extra way to make engineers more of a pain in the rear end, which seems to have been the general design decision around them.

So I guess, it makes perfect sense actually.

To store ships, there needs to be a place. It's called shipyard :|
Why have the engineers none of them? Because nobody would buy ships there, the lack of space for it, the maintenance costs etc.....
Their bases are made as constructing places and research labors. Not as a starport. Simply reason.

Every engineer lives in a system with a station that has a shipyard. Don't be lazy and don't think too complicated [weird]

Yes sorry NeilF, just the transfer option is all we need.

just transfer to another station in system... it's not hard.

Ladies and Gentlemen, and those who consider themselves something "else", we have a winner!

If asked, I would say there are no ship yards at Engineer bases for a couple reasons:

1. Those bases are supposed to be something of a secret. If you remember, as I do, they do not show up in the system map until you actually have access to that particular engineer. AND, if you do happen to find one of these bases before you actually have access, you cannot request docking, and they will shoo you away if you fly close.

2. As part of maintaining their low profile, the presence of a ship yard would draw attention to their existence.

3. Being a British-made game, a certain amount of suffering is culturally required. We must suffer the pains of only being able to ship our ships to the nearest port in the same system, and we must keep a stiff upper lip while we do so.

FDEV wants you to WORK for your gains!

(Just transfer your ships/modules to a nearby shipyard. I know there is one in Deciat. I do this all the time. Including a quick swap out of my current module before I run in and get a fresh one rngineered - that way I can do a direct comparison when I get back to the nearby station and decide which one I want to keep...)

I think Indigo has it - can't think of many bespoke services that would welcome you turning up with your whole collection to work on.

No shipyward in Khun AFAIK, so need to shuttle over from a nearby system, but hey - welcome to ED ;)

The shipyard portion of the game needs work.

If you want to get your ship to Ceos from Jameson, for example. You'll pay around 20m Cr for a Cutter, but if you could take missions to fly someone's ship to Ceos from Jameson for 10mCr, you might jump at the chance to A) fly the cutter and B) make the money.

Instead, you're forced to wait 1.5 hours or so and pay 20m to get a ship somewhere you could fly in less than half the time. "So fly it" some will say. That's another debate altogether, but we have the ability to transfer a ship. Why can't we take a mission to transfer a ship? Why can't we have a career as a big ship pilot who transfers ships from point A to point B and then hopes for another transfer to somewhere else? The ship could be customed, have bobbleheads and everything, and you'd have to have insurance on it before you could take the contract.

I would be up for that. I am nomadic in this game anyhow, so that circuit would be right up my alley. I don't know if it could be easily developed but I don't see why it cannot be developed.
