Should destroying thrusters count as a kill?

Should thrusters count as a critical component?

So in patch 1.04 they made the destruction of a critical system count as the killing blow, which makes sense - if I blow up the powerplant whilst you're shooting the hull, I should get the credit.

I've seen a fair few posts on this forum where in PvP people target the thrusters then leave their victim to self destruct, which avoids the murder charge. This doesn't seem right as they have effectively murdered them.

At the same time, I kill elite anacondas by first taking out their drives then when helpless I take out the powerplant. I wouldn't want it to count as a kill until I'd blown the sucker up.

Yesterday I've tried my first npc anaconda (to be fair I was poorly prepared) and guess what he shot down in a couple of seconds on my ship.
While floating in space I thought about my mistakes tried out my defense systems and finishing my beer I've had to I initiate the self-destruction sequence.... That how "Unsinkable II" was born...

:D

Because you can have a repair kit to repair them...

I wish that were true. Purchased a field repair unit on my Asp just yesterday. You can not repair the following subsystems:

- Powerplant
- Thrusters

Powerplant i could live with, but the inability to repair the thrusters goes beyond my understanding.

Yeah according to the wiki (so could be wrong):

Any module that is equipped to the ship (other than thrusters, hull, and the power plant) can be repaired.

BTW this isn't a loaded question from me, even though I posted it, I can't decide if the answer is yes or no.

I don't think it should count as a kill, rather it should be changed so a destroyed drive does not equal death. Any kind of rescue service would be ok, even an immersion-breaking black screen and magical insta-travel back to last dock à la insurance screen would do. For a substantial fee of course.

IMO a 100% thruster kill should be impossible. It's bad game design to leave anybody completely helpless and unable to function. Either a ship should blow up at 0% engines, or they should be left with some level of degraded functionality when at 0%.

You're dead in the water anyway, so if the person doesn't finish you off and just leaves you there, like I would do to you, just self destruct.

Since thrusters are on the exterior of the ship, I have a feeling when they add the ability to walk around and float outside your ship for repairs, you will be able to repair the individual thrusters that way.

Either allow thrusters to be repairable, or make it blow up the ship.
Destroying peoples thrusters to avoid getting wanted shouldn't be allowed.

even with your thrusters disabled you can still put around (and therefore escape) ...instead i think the goal of warzone conflict (not bounty hunting) is to neutralize the enemy ships, and get paid for that.

to back up my "can still move with disabled thrusters" ill share this, i was attacked in my hauler, and among the many things that was shot to bits, my thrusters was amongst those. i still managed to move away from the pirate lighting me up though, and supercruise out. (looking at the repair screen, my thrusters were disabled/destroyed.

Currently, it should be a kill.

Preferably, things should be repairable, and you should be able to call for help. Leaving someone alive should be a mercy, not a snub.

If, currently it's a kill then it should also equate to a murder bounty when ships are left drifting with no thrusters by their attackers.

The ability to repair thrusters / drives would be preferable though. Maybe if the modules were never able to be truly destroyed rather simply knocked offline until an inbuilt (to the module itself) module self-repair system brought them back up?

The problem is, players can do this deliberately to you, causing a death, loss of all cargo, rebuy cost etc. without incurring the bounty for murder. They can basically circumvent the penalty by forcing you to kill yourself. Either destroyed thruster should kill the ship just like the power plant does, or they must retain some basic functionality sufficient for limping back to a station.

No.

Valid piracy tactic if the trader does not cooperate and it gets hard to shoot the cargo hatch, be it NPC or player.

Keep them stopped and then open the can.

Apologies for my misinformation...

I tend to get that mixed up too. Thrusters can't, FSD can be repaired.
Personally i like this concept of various forms of death.
Even destroyed sensors basically kill you, can't request docking without them as far as i know.
British game, have to expect some black humor.:)
