Should Elite Dangerous add clans/player factions in the future?

Solo cowards can vote no as much as they want. Once you play in open having faction/clan would be nice. Like those who voted no will EVER see other players and clans. Get real if you play in solo only you should not have say here.

Well, to begin with, [redacted to save Brett, Ian & Agony Aunt some hair-pulling]

Second, "get real" - I'd like to see some figures on players in each of the modes. Otherwise, it's just hot air.

Third, we've been told open is "a wasteland" so I guess unless you're out ganking noobs in Eravate and get bulldozed by a wing of Pythons/Anacondas protecting those noobs, open is "easier" because of the ability to form wings for protection.

Lastly, "get real" yourself - the three modes have always been in the game - not the vanished "offline" play but integral to the design of the game. Elite Dangerous isn't like other games; that's why I bought it. Perhaps if you read some of the lore you'd have a better idea of just what game you bought.

In real life there would be many many many more pilots affecting everything

In "real life" no pilot would risk his or her life and ship by ramming unless things were desperate to the point of the only other option would be death. It's a last-minute gamble. It's completely unrealistic to have this as a tactic.

In "real life" the Navy would swiftly destroy any "pirates" or reavers in very short order around populated systems. The penalty for murder would be death, not "oh gosh I have to suicidewinder, what a drag, it's so much work!" If you think you'd be able to stand up for long against a collected military force, you're dreaming.

If people want to play in solo mode, they're more than welcome to. Polls and the like here on these forums only sample a VERY SMALL amount of players in Elite Dangerous.

Thanks, Brett :)

Everything about executive control, every single time. It starts out with "we need clan comms, tags, decals" then a few pages in this idea of asset ownage, shared assets and the usual garbage gets added. Garbage, mind you, from my point of view. Player named minor factions, not a problem. Same players guiding said minor faction through manipulating the BSG? Bring it on!

Players owning assets that only governments can afford? Hell no. Players owning planetary systems? Again, hell no. The Federation can own planetary systems. A government with multiple tens of thousand subjects can own a planetary system. Not a group of x hundred pilots.

If you meant that the guild would use the current game assets (powerplay, board missions, CZs etc) to expand a chosen minor faction, then yes. If you mean that the guild would get direct control over a minor faction and decide where it moves, what it does, then no.

Can't rep you more so +virtual rep & 5t of Cubeo Razorback Bacon o7

So I haven't sold months of data to a minor faction which a feller CMDR was a part of. And it didn't ignite an expansion phase into a neighbouring system?

I must have imagined that :)

Yes, influencing. I could do (have done....) the same by intentionally derailing a faction by taking on and abandoning multiple missions of a certain type. However, it is still playing to the scripted powers that be.

But I guess if FD has decided that players (plural, not singular) will always be meant to be part of a scripted act, then so be it.

So now, another reason why clans should exist would be to allow like minded group of players to organize themselves to massively and systematically manipulate the powers by doing what you did, and/or killing NPC sys authority vessels, or by starving out a station in order to shift the balance of power to their favor.

That is happening now. Many player groups have already been associated with, or had inserted, a minor faction. Through the BGS these groups are pushing, and learning about, how to advance their factions. Go to this thread ( https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=177719 ) for more details.

"Should Elite Dangerous add clans/player factions in the future?"

No. All stuff like that should be done by players. I wouldn't mind seeing more & better social stuff added but there is no need for official clan/guild/fleet/corporation stuff inside the game.

You must be new here.

Welcome to Elite!

Minor Factions have been in game since last August, and have reached around 5700 in number.

Which kinda shows how much of a nothingburger this all is, no one notices 10K systems under the "control" of Minor Factions.

Why? One, Space is Big. I mean Really Big.

And the control is non-existant, and will remain so.

(Note, the numbers above are second hand knowledge from my MF leader, who has access to the MF boards, and extrapolating that most MFs have expanded into at least one other system, and some many more than than that. So 10Kish._

Not a "clan", but a way to express allegiance, other than bothering FD support with renaming yourself.
Say, you're supporting your minor faction, you have a private group in which you are coordinating your actions, it would be very convenient for you and your friends to display that group's ticker along with your name.

Voting is closed so I just leave a note here. I would very appreciate having guilds, corporations or something similar for the players to unite into groups like in real world. I see not having such important feature as a weakness of in our huge ED world.
