should i sell my asp for a vulture?

My asp is worth around 12 million or so but right now all i am doing is fighting with it. Should i just get a vulture and upgrade that instead?

Asp is great for a multipurpose ship, much better at trading than a Type 6, good enough in combat, not to mention its ultimate ship for exploration. But if you want to focus on fighting: yes, get a vulture.

If all you are doing is combat then Vulture>>Asp, if its the only ship you own and you like to change up your routine then the multipurpose aspect of the asp is >>>>>Vulture. Vulture is great at one thing and one thing only, Asp can be good at a number of activities.

I just did that swap. I'm fighting for the CSG at Lugh so it makes sense. Once I get the big payout from the conflict I'll get a type 7 to add to my little fleet. I liked my Asp but the Vulture appears to be much better at combat.

The Vulture is pretty amazing, and don't be blinkered into thinking it's so single-purpose either. I have 36T of Cargo on mine (A4 Shields, 32T + 4T Cargo bays), which is exactly what I had on my Cobra. But... the Vulture makes combat fun and effortless, so less rares trading and more blowing stuff up compared to the Cobra. The C3 loadout almost forces you to use LASERs, so the upside is that's there's no reloading necessary, and a C3 Burst LASER does a ridiculous amount of damage. Have a search around for power management tips. It isn't hard, but it can baffle you. Avoid the almost 4MW of an A-class KWS, and you'll have fewer problems with your combat settings, and less juggling.

I keep my Asp for its versatility. My current weapon loadout can destroy most NPCs very quickly - 2 medium beams, 1 light beam, 3 cannons. Possibly not as quickly as a Vulture, but it gets the job done and I can do a little trading on the side:)

why do you need to ask us?

what do you want to do?... Combat ? .... get yourself a combat ship...

get a Dropship like Midnight_Sun ...

get a Clipper....

or follow the crowd and leap on a Vulture

Every answer is correct... go with your gut rupok... it's a game to enjoy with what "You" want to do my friend :)

Both!
I'll never sell my Asp, with 6 hardpoints, 112T of goods, full tank of fuel and still able to jump 24.5LY? It's a great ship.
I saved up for the difference, got rid of my Cobra upgrades (not the ship), got rid of my Viper completely, and bought/outfitted a Vulture.
I like that I can share the power plant, and FSD between the Vulture and Cobra, for when I want to do small rare trade runs.

bear in mind, the vulture has a very low jump range. So if all you want to do is some local combat than the vulture is sure your choice but travelling larger distances with it could be painful

ASP is far more versatile, I have mine loaded with shield boosters and hull reinforcement but its not as tough as the Vulture. Personally though I swapped back to the ASP, it just kept more doors open for my career development. Plus, I like a couple of low power turret weapons that keep pecking away at a target for me and then also have my other hardpoints loaded with manual target weapons. Vulture is more limited on configuration for combat.

I was in a similar position as yourself - had about 15M invested in an Asp, stopped exploring, missions and such and did mostly bounty hunting instead. Asp was still a good ship for NAV hunting and occasional RES, but nothing like as good in combat as the Vulture.
As others said you lose jump range (my Vulture is now 14.5LY, my Asp was 23LY). Two large weapons only - but go class 3 Bursts and you'll double the damage the Asp was capable of (especially to larger ships). Class 2 Hull Reinforcement, Millitary Grade Hull plus a Shield Booster and you can sail through combat with only the occasional few minutes waiting for recharge.

Never regreted it once.

See now thats an altering opinion to the one I just gave. The thing is, this should answer the questions for you. Should you switch? You wont know until you have done it because despite El Presidente's Vulture being the same as mine, we both had different experiences in them.

If you were to focus on bounties/fighting, there's an extra 2 mil in price between the vulture and asp that can be spent on weapons/hull/shield reinforcement to make the vulture shields stronger and weapons do more damage. 12 mil doesn't sound like a fully upgraded asp, but the vulture can be fully kitted out for about that amount. Just depends on the level of spare cash and current game direction.

The vulture is pretty amazing ship, massive damage output from its large hardpoints and dat shield tank and maneuverability. Put a class A shield booster on it as well and maxed out class a thursters, powerplant, power distributor and fsd.

Love it over the asp already.

NO! Everybody has got a Vulture. Except me of course. And I suppose quite a few other people but you get the idea. It's like the 34th Century equivalent of a Ford Escort. Or an opinion. It's this weeks 'in thing'. I'll wait until they are out of fashion myself and then I'll still get an Asp.
