Should I sell my FdL to get a Krait?

Threw away my FDL quite a while back. Just wasn't enamored with it. Then I built a Krait when it was released. Initial impression wasn't that great. But...since learning to fly it a bit better, and throwing a c6 SCB in her, I find that I enjoy it more in a haz res or CNB that I ever did the FDL.

Three large beams, all on the same side of the ship, and two double-shot frags slung underneath. Couple that with the speed and agility of the Krait and I find I don't need as much shields as I did in the FDL. I oftentimes kill pirates without them landing a single shot.

I'll never bother to own another FDL, but the Krait is a keeper for me. YMMV. :)

Must admit, I have to keep reminding myself that I'm not indestructible when I'm flying my multirole Krait.

Lightweight HD-armor hull, 5A shield and a couple of boosters with 3xC3 beams and 2xC2 MCs and it'll fly rings around the annies that come after me while I'm running missions.
It's the first "small" ship that I've felt totally comfortable taking on any NPC in; Cutters, Corvettes, Annies, T10s.
Line 'em up and I'll knock 'em down.

However...

If the shield drops, the hull always ends up at <50%
It just isn't built to take much punishment.

As long as I pay attention to my shield, and run away as soon as I lose my shield, I'm okay but, as I said, I have to keep reminding myself that although it's got big guns it's not a terribly tough ship.

Yes, as soon as the shield goes down, run ! I got back from the current CZ with 1% hull left because I wasn't paying attention

It's a fun ship to fly, and you can engineer it in lots of different ways to the same end .... and it's the only ship in which I feel I've gitted gud (is that English?) :D

Don't use pauper's bulkheads, problem solved.

Meh!

This one's supposed to be a "delivery van" so it's not really intended for combat and I was trying to squeeze as much jump-range out of it as possible.
My combat Krait is much tougher.

My point, really, was just that it's such a capable ship that you have to remind yourself not to bite off more than you can chew.

Armor? We don't need no stink'n armor. ;)

Truth be told, I've not come close to losing my shields in a haz res or CNB, but I will depart for a SCB reload once it runs dry. But then I don't do CZs any more, as I'm not crazy about gang-bangs.

Are you that low on credits?

Yeah

I rarely play now so don't have the stomach to make the creds. After irl went poo, I haven't had the will to get into games. (Starting to find it easier to now so must be recovering!) I do still hop in to my Sidey every now and again but only to remind myself how good VR is and how much fun the FA off flight mechanics can be.

If anyone gives a crap, I have:
  • Sidewinder and iEagle for canyon running (plus iCourier for feeling cool)
  • Asp X for exploring
  • Anaconda with SLF for Haz Res (me in SLF)
  • Viper3 and FdL also for Haz Rez
  • Cobra3 for smuggling or planet missions
My main ship is the abovementioned Sidewinder
I rarely play the FdL. But do like to introduce people to VR with the FdL because it looks cool but not OTT like the iCourier. (I pilot, with my friend standing to the side of me.)

I have about 30 million in creds

I think the only reason I want to get the Krait is because of the cockpit so I can look at the guns and feel mean hard!

This one would fulfil my fantasies but it is 150mil!

That's why I am thinking about selling FdL. I doubt I would ever be able to have both as I can't see me spending enough time earning the creds. :(

What do people think now?

Thanks!

Should you sell your FDL? Until we get a Huge size Power Play weapon, I'd say: "Hell yes. Sell that FDL. Sell it twice."

Then as you fully appreciate the ship-buying-selling system, all you need to do is sell it. Store any modules you are fond of and buy the Krait. If you don't like it after a while sell the Krait and rebuy yourself a FDL. You know it makes sense.

I love my FdL but have hardly used it.

I mainly enjoy d1cking about in canyons in SLFs and enjoying the view in VR

The FdL reminds me of the Lancer Stratos in Dirt Rally; super hard to learn and twitchy AH, but once you have tamed it, wow! (I know, I know! You never truly tame the Stratos/FdL but ykwim.)

Basically I need someone to say, DO IT! Or STOP!

Thanks

do or don't. :)

while the krait is indeed very nice, i'd keep the fdl any day. such is love! i have two of them, actually :D

but you can have both. or sell it if you're hot for the krait and short on credits, and then just buy it back afterwards, a sale only sets you back 10%, you might consider it mortgage :)

If you only have Cr30M free to spend, have a think on what you will be using the Krait for and how many credits you have made with the FdL. If you realise the FdL is your credit making ship, stick with that to make the credits for the Krait. If you haven't been using the FdL to make credits, get rid of it, just do your sums first as there is some difference between the cost of the two. Both my FdL and Krait are A rated with about the same level of engineering. The only real difference is the Krait now has a Guardian FSD Booster and according to Inara, the value for the ships are: FdL - Cr95,879,522 and Krait - Cr141,073,909, a difference of around Cr50m.

Well, my FdL is a combat ship so it's got heavy armor etc but it boosts to 529m/sec IIRC.
My multirole Krait is lighter and boosts to ~550m/sec

the krait boost is weak, dunno why, i think it's magic number related. it takes several boosts to reach that top velocity (the fdl pretty much instant), otoh the krait can boost very often.

the krait does indeed fly very well but i never would compare it to fdl. for me krait pretty much replaced the python (don't worry, i still have that mule docked and don't plan to get rid of her!), a downgrade in raw power but it flies much, much better (plus impressive cockpit, plus slf ...)

but if a krait outruns/outmaneuvers a fdl ... there's something fishy.

Surely you mean Lancia Stratos

Hah! Yes, that's the one. I'm not all that in to cars but I do love driving that bad boy in DR! :)

I don't really have a money making machine. Just one I enjoy flying. I think VR experience is a must and being able to launch SLF is a Brucey Bonus IYAM.
I'm gonna sell it
