Should Military Ascension Missions Be A Bit More..... Military?

Yes, 100% agree!

I am also of the persuasion that you can't be a King Admiral or Admiral King.

You get tight with one faction, then the others wouldn't/shouldn't be offering you those lucrative farming machinery missions, they should actually be taking pot shots at you.

Plus I think there needs to be some sort of rank/affiliation with that non empire and non Federation crowd as well!

Never thought of that.. I find myself completely agreeing..

unless there's some form of treaty between the Feds and Imperials... although there's no indication of that in game...

Odd one can be top rank of opposing factions. That makes a funny irony :)

What is the other faction anyay... Independence.. or something seems to ring a bell... Wonder what kind of ships they'd have? If anything unique.. perhaps they'll be a unique 'engineering' faction maybe..

That in itself would make some interesting conversation..

Yes they should.

There was talk of a more military career aspect showing up at some point.

I do find it quite weird sometimes when I get my military rank up mission, and it's to go and find some gold or something, especially when the last rank up required hunting down a murdering their enemies.

In general superpower ranking should be overhauled and made more thematic and purposeful. It should involve more than just doing (unrelated) missions or hauling around rich tourists that seem to give +++ faction rep for going on vacation. :)

But they are rich tourists with connections, give them a good trip and they mention that to someone with influence.. :D

Why? You aren't actually in their military. At best, you're in the reserves. However, considering that you have to provide your own equipment, and get paid freelance, it's more like you're in the merchant marine for those super powers.

You work on contract and your "rank" reflects how much you've done for them. Don't see why it needs to be mutually exclusive UNLESS the two powers go to war.

Besides, if they did change it, then they better let me keep access to the ships I earned from both sides or get ready to pay me back the money I spent on paint jobs, with interest!

I think FD shot themselves in the foot a bit with rank locked ships.

If it wasn't for those, a military overhaul where you can only join one side would be straight forward.

But anyway. Speaking of daft tourists, I just got paid 3 million credits, and +++ rep to show a group of passengers around 1 tourist beacon.... That happened to be orbiting the same planet as the station I was in. It was like 3ls away. You could clearly see the planet from the station.
Even in 3303, money does not buy sense. :p

I purposefully roleplay this way. I have one CMDR that is aligned with Feds, and another that aligns with Imperials. This double-agent stuff doesn't make sense the way Frontier does it.

IIRC, back in the early game (first few months, when we also had less ranks) you could haul your way up to rank 3-4 and after that you had an assassination mission. Couldn't skip it. (or it was only my bad luck. I was a harmless trader back then)

Can someone confirm this, please?

I seem to recall that as well. For instance, my turn-in mission for Baron to get a Clipper required me to murder execute an Admiral in a Clipper.

Thank you. I was not fighting at that time, unarmed unshielded trucker, and I've hit a wall with progressions both with Feds and Empire - after a certain rank, you HAD to do a kill mission to continue.
