But you say a offical PvE Group would drive all kinds of people out of open, yet you also stated correctly that everybody who don't want to play in open already can go somwhere else. Nobody has to play in open, that would not change, but an offical pve group could unite all PvE groups thus creating a bigger player pool and more importantly it would be a group that does not depend on one player keep on managing it. So nothing changes for open but for people wanting PvE it would be an improvment.

Because it all comes down to the fact that some players want all the benefits of playing in Open without any of the risks... If Frontier gave the PvE only option, it's one less reason to play in Open for non-combat players who currently think the interaction is worth the risk.

Open pvp doesn't scare me. The risk that someone might blow me up for no good reason just adds an element of danger to the game that I like. Frankly I have more problems with NPCs because they drop in on you at unrealistic moments and demonstrate magical timing and take rule-bending advantages in spite of the fact that they are generally much weaker and less skilled than PCs.

But the PvE only options are already there? God know how many PvE groups there are, one more won't be the end of the world.

There is so little PvP interaction in this game (except you get really active and look for it), that I see no reason to do that. I would rather say, push the interaction than limiting the freedom players have.

Then whats the problem with a offical PvE group? People who don't want to play in open are not playing there already anyway, so all good.

The problem is that these people play solo because they dont know that there is Mobius at all. Or quit the game at all.

Nothing of interest to a PvP player, because those that play ED as another deathmatch shooter in space cant comprenhend anyway how someone can have fun without pewpewing anyone else out of the game.

I hope these players sit in open one time and all they have left to gank is other gankers and cheaters. That would satisfy my sense of "justice".
(apologies to any real pirates left then tho, they have to pay the price for the others that dont know how to RP.)

In how many of those groups are you invincible to other player attacks? PvE only would be a fundamental change in direction from FD.

The implication of that statement is that you believe that people are currently existing in open as part of a substandard experience [for them] because there's no other [easily accessible] alternative.

In which case, why shouldn't there be an easily accessible alternative, if that provides for a better gaming experience for the people that want it?

"Because there'd be less human fodder for me" seems a little unfair an answer to that.

You could always eliminate the hollow square. Give people less clue as to who they are attacking.

'Fundamental changes in direction' that improve the customer experience may well be a sensible option -though from DB's comments during the Kickstarter, the way Open has developed isn't in the direction he envisioned anyway.

I none, but you get kicked out. But I'm not sure why that matters, if you don't want invincible ships then don't go into the PvE mode. But going there in the first place to shot at Players and break the rules would be quite awful thing to too tough.

PvP players need to decide once and for all what they really want, a challenge or an easy kill.

If they are after a challenge then they need other players that actually enjoy combat in Open PvP Mode, not people who are only after a PvE experience - i.e. Mobius players, and, in my humble opinion, therefore not affected by an Open PvE mode being made available.

If they are only after easy kills, then I can see why PvP players would not want a separate Open PvE mode as it lowers the number of available helpless (or harmless) victims. Is a game made for easy PvP kills really what Elite: Dangerous is all about?

In all. Because if you combat a player in these groups you get kicked out. so thats a one time only opertunity. Also its not needed to be ACTUALLY invincible. a pve mode that works exactly like
mobius (meaning killers get a lifetime ban) but be advertised on main menue AND being moderated by a bunch of fd employees and not by a single player would simply be more fair to all.

it wouldnt change a thing otherwise.

FD have to think about what makes open mode tick - the social interaction is one of its main draws to those who aren't there to fight, which would be lost with a PvE only mode.

No thanks, knowing who the players are is good for tension... especially when you stumble across another player out in some remote system.

In what way would a multiplayer PvE mode lose social interaction?

I voted No.

I don't think a system where it is impossible to fire on another player is in any way valid. The one that stand out for me, as other have mentioned, is players who are wanted should be fair game.

Now, kind of the 'ideas' bit to throw things into the mix. Right or wrong... ideas not design suggestions.

I would rather see a more effective police force in systems that warrant it. Make it so that the system authority vessels respond to crimes in a timely manner, make it so that they respond in significant enough force to neutralise (or at least pose a credible thread) when they do respond. Wings of system authority vessels sized appropriately for the ship class/combat status of the target

Make interdiction an event which will result in an appropriately law enforcement response. Even if it is just an officer 'pulling you over to have a word' sort of response. But it puts system authority vessels in the instance quicker.

Now the killer. Give some system authorities a new and heavily restricted piece of hardware that will inhibit frame shift drive on all classes of ship, not just ones they can mass lock. And up to 4-5k. Make it so anyone attacking another would have to decide whether to stick around or not.

But responses must scale from fast and over-whelming in secure systems to non-existant in anarchy systems.

OK, I know, I played EvE too long.

Well said! I've been playing just over a year too, although I don't think I've had any "bad" experiences - some players have tried to kill me, but that's probably because I used to have an Archon Delaine tag and occasionally I am known to do naughty things and wear a fetching red "Wanted" badge in public.

On the whole, I've made more friends than enemies playing in Open. The scare-stories are just as silly as those who make out that Open is some kind of "macho" option and that you need pairs of things to play it.

As a few of us have said, making crime and consequences better is more preferable and likely to happen - the devs are actively engaging on that topic, I haven't read anything from them about changing the game modes.

The problem with " making crime and consequences better" is that it punishes the aggressor but does nothing for the victim.

No amount of bounty is going to stop someone killing clean players. One of the things being considered is an influence wide bounty as Sandro discussed. Say I am wanted in Fed space. How many Fed systems don't have any Empire or Anarchy systems within 2 or 3 jumps? So influence wide "Wanted" won't help anything either.

The only thing that would protect the victim, would be almost instant authority response to kill the "bad guy" thereby saving the "good guy".

An open-PvE mode would eliminate all the work invested to make an effective crime and punishment system work.

I agree. Also NPC pirates are the worse, they ask you to drop your cargo, so you drop all of it, they then say it isn't enough and try to kill you. Most player pirates don't do this in my experience.
