Why do I have to travel to get somewhere?
Why are space's huge distances so huge?
Why is the galaxy the size of a galaxy?
Why no magic teleport for me and my ships?
Why do I have to claim my bounties at a station?
Why do I have to claim my bonds at a station?
Why do I have to go in a station to trade?
Why do I have to dock myself?
Why do I have to undock myself?
Why do I have to manually select destinations before jumping to destinations?
Why do I have to decide myself what to do?
Why does the game not tell me what to do?
Why does my ship gets destroyed when I'm destroyed?
Why do I have to rebuy my destroyed ship?
Why can't I just never lose my ship?
Why are my bounties/bonds/exploration data lost when I'm destroyed?
Why can't I win every time and successfully do everything always?
My mama told me I was special!
(...)
Game is broken and stupid, needz moar b3tt3r mekkanicks!

Elite Dangerous super duper version, for some players:

1 - Press start
2 - The End. Congratulations, commander, you're super awesome, here's some achievements badges to share on facebook!

sigh...

Obviously, we need individual modes for each of these contingencies as they're identical in every way to the apparently pretty sizeable desire for an Open PvE mode. We'll neatly sidestep around the fact that almost every other MMO has a means of playing mostly / entirely in PvE, that would only complicate matters.

I'm wondering how they'll incorporate multi-crew play. If your friend is on the other side of the galaxy, do you have to fly all the way there to jump in his/her copilot seat? Why can't you just spawn in that ship? If so, why can't you just spawn in any of your ships from the start screen. Explore to the core with one, do CGs with another. It IS JUST a game after all.

Wow, this is one of the most clear cut poll response I have ever seen. Such a resounding, nay, overwhelming 'No' should make the OP realise that he is going to have to change tack significantly if he wants his argument to gain any sort of traction.

There will never be fast travel in E:D. This is because Frontier does not support Open play or combat, and they want the game to be a single player exploration simulator. Even though in the original Elite you could buy one-time use items to teleport anywhere in the galaxy, there will never be such a mechanic in E:D because this change would make Open play combat actually fun.

Explorers jump everywhere anyway, so getting long 1 time jumps (aka fast travel) would not help them. It would however be immensely useful for PvPers, who bring 12 LY jump range ships 10-20 jumps to get from A to B, then you outfit at a nearby station, hope that instancing doesn't mess up, then you have to outfit again and its 10-20 jumps back. No one likes PvPing in Open because of how much work and effort it is for no reward (and because of instancing, not even any guarantee you can even get pvp).

Long story short, frontier hates Open play, so NO, we're not getting fast travel.

As fast travel would offer a distinct advantage for exploration, as one example, it would need both a separate mode and a separate BGS - otherwise exploration using fast travel would be the default - so not really a case of "don't use it if you don't want to", in my opinion.

Trading rares as another example. Long distance smuggling as a third.

I think "fast travel" would destroy Exploration and Rares in a similar way that a "win button" would spoil the game. You need to put the effort in to appreciate the rewards. IMnsHO. ;)

Heresy spoiler.

I don't want to reach Elite rank. *
More than 3,000 hours playing time, mostly exploring and I'm getting too close.
What will happen when I do. Will it have the same effect as the ending of Arthur C. Clarke’s The Nine Billion Names of God?
That would spoil it for everyone else.

* But then I am an awkward sod.

I voted Yes, but, my idea is simple. Take the current jump ranges and double them. Then add a military grade FSD that adds 50% from there. Heck, have an engineer build it. So for the best ship (Conda) you would get a 80LY jump with a normal FSD. The military grade would make that go to the 120LY.

The Corvette would go to 36LY.

Then all ships would be worth using. Versus everyone in the same ship, over and over again.

It is possible to get to Sagittarius A* in under 8 hours.
The other side of the playable area in under 24 hours.
It's possible to cross human inhabited space in under 30 minutes.

Fast travel isn't needed.

There is an arguement for those with low playtime but for them that just makes the high jump range ships that bit more valuable which is kind of a balance thing anyway. Sure it'll take ages in a 11Ly ship but that's what you get in a weighed down teched up combat ship.
Although to be fair even at 12Ly you can cross the bubble in under 2 hours so it's hardly that big an issue... It's also pretty easy and cheap to sell ships and re-buy at your destination since modules sell for 100% and ships for 90% value.
Finally I'd add those that want to meet friends only have to travel once to their friends, and there is always CQC for those with little time to invest.

Edit: Having thought about it I've just realised it's often faster to get across human space than it is to get to Hutton orbital!!! :D

So much this. The impatience of youth, now, now, now, we don't need a fast mode, travel is fast enough.

Fast travel should be allowed at these conditions:
- For the pilot only. Your current ship stays behind.
- Only if you are currently docked at a station.
- Fast travel to another station, obviously.
- Only if you don't have any active mission.
- Only if your current ship does not have any cargo.

This way, impossible to cheat with exploration data drop-off, courier missions, bringing several ships full of cargo to a specific stations, etc...

I would also love to see some ship transportation service, that would take time and money based on the amount of jumps required, and only if it does not have any cargo.

I have very limited playtime and would seriously even be ready to pay for such features...
One could then send his ships to specific destinations, do something else (fun) in the meantime, fast travel to these ships (for outfitting for instance), send them to other destinations (PvP spots for instance) then fast travel there...

It takes quite literally 45 seconds per jump + typically 3 minutes at the end of each journey.
The only concession you need it to make sure you equip a suitable fuel scoop or tank and check your route to make sure you don't fly through a region of unscoopables.
It really isn't rocket science.

Sure, to fly to Robigo (500ly) in a 17 ly range Python can take 30 odd jumps, but even that should take less than 30 minutes.

It is rare to actually HAVE TO travel over 300 ly in a single sitting.

So basically, the only ships which struggle are beginner Sidewinders, Eagles (which, after delivering one tonne of something at a CG will receive in the order of 300kCR anyway) and: FdLs, T9s and Corvettes. And with a bit of logistic planning using EDDB.IO or other, you can pick up the military armour or class 8 whatevers somewhere nearer the destination.

Face it, there is very little that is actually difficult in this game, at least let us live with the illusion that the galaxy is Awesomely Huge and that travelling to a different system is still a risky/tricky proposition.

One concession I will make is that, surely we need some sort of Valet / transport system where we pay an in game or player org to move our ships across the galaxy for us for some set price.

I vote no..

A taxi service to your stored ship would be nice. It could be an option in the shipyard menu.

But this idea is nice.. I'd like to get a NPC Taxi or another CMDR take me to another station.. well, the ship must be huge and we must able to walk around in it..

Aaaand you can suicide and re-spawn if you want to 'insta cancel' in case your CMDR friend decided to take the route via Sag A*

Would have voted no if I had of seen this earlier. Once you allow ships to jump ridiculous amounts of light years the it'll make a mockery of that whole dynamic of the game.
Some ships are designated as long distance explorers but if other ships, and especially the bigger combat orientated ships, can compete against an Asp or DBE then those ships would cease to become relevant.
Just my thoughts on it.

I vote no..

Passenger missions involving other players sounds like a lot of fun. Of course it isn't only the customer who needs to be cautious...

<screech of a Cobra pulling up to the kerb> "Where to gov?"

"Take me around to this nice secluded star system. Yes that one which would be difficult to get out from. So did you make a lot of money tonight? You got plenty of cash in your cab?"

It's too hard to make money in this game.

They should allow you to take out a 500 million loan and never pay it back. To get started for all the new players who joined late.
