I have had good luck using thin press-board to construct my secondary panels.

5-minute quick dry wood glue ($5)
big piece of press-board (enough to do about everything) ($7)
misc tools (sandpaper, drill, file, small handsaw)

paint to your desire. Looks good. Cheap if you mess up too.

I will not show you picure of My Man Elite Cave as it is a state.

You win at Elite Dangerous.
I was totally going to post my setup (full Volair Simpit with 3 "34 1080p screens) and then I saw this and now I'm just not worthy.

Raddest physical Elite cockpit build period.

I added a panel on the left for an old Galaxy Note 3. (I may install a 5" monitor in there instead).
Since the picture was taken, I added a 'landing gear' panel to the left of the Galaxy Note 3. It is not illuminated yet, nor has buttons yet. But eventually will.
I also started to add onto the right side of the console (near the mouse). Will likely move the lower/center tablet over to the new left-sided console. (The lower center tablet to be replaced by a 10.1" monitor).
I am trying to figure out how to extract shield and hull data (both for me and my target) to display on the MFDs. Would be cool!

Amazing stuff guys!

Loved the big Red button with "combat log" written all over it.

Heh, i actually built it as a self destruct button. The key to the left directly activates the big red button (for safety). Then i realised there was no bindable button for self destruct. So i was using it for FSD for a while but it got annoying. Now it goes largely unused.
I'm actually in the process of removing that button and the corner emergency buttons and replacing them with SLF buttons instead. Probably colour coordinated rectangular ones, like you see on some arcade machines. If i could also get my head around some coding so it leaves the last one i pressed lit up, well.... i'd be one happy chappy

Maybe you could replace it with a trackball control, and wireup another button for a left click? Just an idea, it's too glorious to leave unused :p

Still Really great to some of the setups.

Vive
2xIkea laptop stands
a floor protector
a peice of scrap wood
Saitek x52 Pro HOTAS+Pro Flight Rudder Pedals
Industrial strength velcro to hold the hotas on the stands, the scrap wood between the stands, the keyboard to the wood and the pedals to the floor protector.

The seat i grabbed before a friend of mine sent his VW Golf 3 to the junkyard.

I can just barely see my tv from the chair to start steamvr but once its on i use the steamvr desktop to start the game or look something up while ingame, i have the desktop set to appear 50 or 60 cm in front of me, scale it down to 1.2m wide and have mouse/keyboard easily available which makes web browsing or changing options very easy.

Not sure if this is quite the right area to ask (mods, apologies if it isn't) but can anyone recommend a good gaming keyboard? Partly for Elite, partly for other (Planet Coaster) stuff.

Requirements:

Clicky. Microswitches for preference.
Multicolour illuminated (because I may be 50 but I'm damned if I'm going to grow up any time soon)
Affordable in the UK.

Thanks!

Edit: I ended up going for a Razor BlackWidow Tournament Edition Chroma Clicky. There's a name that rolls off the tongue..!

Can't go wrong with Razer when it comes to keyboards and mice. I have four... :D

I'm currently rocking a Razer Ornata Chroma, which has an interesting hybrid mechanical - membrane switch. For me at least, I find this switch adequate. If you can, try and get a preview. For my mouse, I have a beast. The Razer Mamba TE, the wired variant of the Mamba, which not only is cheaper, but better. It uses a laser sensor, too. Fully adjustable DPI up to 16k. Nine buttons. The scroll wheel tilts to the left and right.

I'm thinking of expanding my controls at the end of the month with a Razer Tartarus. It's basically a smaller keyboard with keys dedicated to gaming, plus an eight-way hat switch. I intend on using it for throttle and thrust.

In addition, I have spares with Razer Synapse support too. A DeathStalker keyboard. Pretty basic, but the keys are fully programmable with Synapse, which is what really matters. And an Abyssus V2. Very basic mouse. Optical sensor up to 5k DPI & fully adjustable. Ambidextrous design, and pretty standard button layout. No side buttons. I like it when I'm not gaming owing to comfort.

As you can see I like Razer keyboards and mice. Bonus: I use a Razer Goliathus Control mat. Yes, it does make a difference to the laser sensor on the Mamba.

Here are a few shots of my setup taken about 6 months back. Went the white for something a bit different.

Still a few things to add (when isn't there?) lol. It's all fairly stock, but I have added a custom perspex table top for easier access to a keyboard when gaming. Will likely change that up later, get the tablet & buttkicker accessories & find a spot to use a proper mouse comfortably.

Hardware includes:
RSeat RS1 Cockpit w/ RS Stand S3
Warthog HOTAS
MFG Crosswind Pedals
TrackIR
LG 55" OLED Curved Display
Sennheiser Game One Headset
Rapoo Wireless Keyboard

I added wrist support to my mouse use. Found a small pad by Roccat. This thing is great! I was really suffering some bad strain without it. Mouse is even more fun to use now.

Some minor tweaks to my setup.

I was realy tired of having to adjust the throttle for the aproach. So I build a '7s rest'. Two pieces of stainless steel, and a notch in the middle, added to a thrustmaster twcs. Allowes you to adjust the throttle to propper aproach speed just by feeling. The resistance is hard enough (I setteld with 0.5mm) to give a propper 'stop' effect, but still soft enough to overide it easily.

Right now the notch it to far up to be used as a 'blue' indicator for combat, so i guess I'm gonna add another one further down for this purpose.
