Truely AWESOME!

What is behind the MFD's driving the display? do they bear any reference to the game?

Unfortunately they don't bear any reference to the game.
The main purpose is to label the tiny buttons that surround the 2 main MFD's.

I have a small character display (top right of panel) which displays data from X3 Terran conflict while playing. I am pretty sure that I can harvest some data from ED to display on it.

You can do some cool things with creative thinking. For example, when you press a button for the discovery scanner, you can program a particular video to start playing. Or play a video that shows a targetted ship whenever you lock onto the nearest hostile. etc.

I read that you can harvest the data to tell if your shields are down, also if you have major hull damage. This data can serve as triggers to play select videos. (I was planning on playing static on all MFD whenever major hull damage has occured.

If I could ID what the selected target is, I would play a video accordingly. (a planet, a star, a ship...etc.)

The game Falcon BMS makes great use of shared memory. Almost all data can be obtained and used. I use it to drive real-world looking instruments on all of my MFD's. I wish FD would do this! Just not a large enough audience for this type of stuff.

For now, I just grabbed some cool LCARS animations (and made the left MFD screen myself), and put them on there. My special touch was to also add static on and off screens that overlay ontop the videos. Unfortunately, when I play ED it slows down the playing of the videos. Imagine playing ED then trying to start and play 11 videos at once! That is what this is doing. Everything here is being controlled by a single computer. (i7-6700k, 4.0+GHz, 32GB RAM, SSD drives, Win-7)

I use Roccat for a side console and for a small display. Well, it is setup, but I don't use it much. Mostly just for the ambiance. ;)

The center buttons can be programmed for any game event.

No special High Tech setup like some other guys are showing here, but still a lot of fun to play Elite with!

120" screen fired by an Epson FHD projector, 5.1 Sound with a Yamaha AVR and Heco speakers and a casual Xbox360 controller... :-D

Not what this was about, but yes, you indeed do, next to a 21yo Gran Reserva Rum Cask Finish. :-D

And no, I'm no alcoholic. :-D

Ah yes, I've had a bottle or two of the Gran Reserva a long time ago. Very nice as I recall.

Back on topic: that's a frickin' huge screen! :)
