Show whether each of a target's modules are Engineered by adding the 'hex' icon to the left panel on basic scan

Upon completion of a basic scan, please add the 'hex' Engineering icon by any module that is modified, when looking at the target ship's modules in the left panel.

This tweak would be really helpful for:

1. Gauging Cmdr threat level in Open

2. Policing 'vanilla' Private Groups, PvP competitions or duelling agreements, i.e. by allowing us to check that someone is playing fair if they agree to use no mods, or only on specified modules

Thanks indeed for considering,

Truesilver

EDIT: For the same reasons, it would be helpful if the use of buffed DPS ammo (Premium or Standard reload) by a target vessel shows in the left panel by the weapon module, precisely as it currently shows to us in our own ships in the right panel.

This seems oddly familiar.... :D

I agree this is something relatively simple that I'd like to see happen, it's essentially just about helping to improve situational awareness.

This thread created with the kind permission of ideas merchant Cosmicspacehead...!

I have added a self-explanatory edit concerning Premium (etc) ammo also.

Lol
Idea Merchant. I like that. :D

If only FDev paid me for my ideas. Then I'd actually have money to buy store items!
(And a new graphics card!)

Big ole +1 for this suggestion! :p

Is that so you can chicken out if your target is engineered as well? If you're going head to head with someone, why should it matter to you if they have engineered ships or not? If you don't want the risk, don't shoot at other people, it's not rocket science.

I kind of agree. It'll just allow people to specifically pick 'weaker' targets to PvP against. It's not like people currently pick equally equipped and ranked players to kill... this would make it even easier for them to do so.

If this is addressed at me, I think you may have mistaken me for a ganker who wants easy kills. No problem, of course they exist.

Speaking personally, though, I'm primarily a 1v1 duellist who spends my time in Live fighting as many fully Engineered guys as possible in my Courier (Courier v FdL a speciality) and in Beta fighting as many fully Engineered guys as possible in anything.

I've been PvP-ing for two years, used to be Adle's Armada's EU PvP Admin, and was part of the team that won the first PvP League undefeated (I'm actually the only player in the game to have a 6-0 record in the PvP League, although that's really just by virtue of good team-mates).

You can check out my modest PvP channel here, if you wish:

(I also very rarely Powerplay for the Federation, but that is the only situation in which I might have the upper hand.)

So no, this is not, in my case, about reducing risk, but I thought that might still be relevant for others, hence I included it in the OP.

It's mainly about a conversation that arose in another thread about how it would be enjoyable for those of us who like a fair fight to be able to organise to fight 'vanilla' or, as I've added above, perhaps with an agreement as to which modules can be modded.

The thing is that those guys just attack regardless. They're not deterred by worrying about whether someone's Engineered, so it wouldn't affect their behaviour either way.

Ah, the nay sayers. Lol

This idea is almost entirely to help organised PvP.

It can also help see if NPCs are modded too.

Random acts of murder are not going to change. However, if you see that Cutter armed to the teeth, with a long list of modules with hex icons on it, you can probably guess you'll need to run. Lol

Sure, these murderers could use the system to find even weaker targets, but that's no different to them checking your module list to make sure you're not a threat anyway.
