Shy animals and Shelters/Warnings/etc.

I've been getting a lot of welfare alerts from some animals that are "shy" to humans even with shelters in the [career mode scenarios & tutorials] and such. Now, I'm not saying this is a bug or anything. I get animals are shy and need to hide and I've been trying to put shelters far enough from the guests and such yet I still get these alerts quite often as the stressed animal refuses to go hide often enough to relieve their stress.

I'm wondering:
1) Any way to help animals hide in the open so they don't always have to go to a shelter? [Edit 2: Some bears will climb trees to relieve stress, but what about things like antelopes?]
2) How to get guests to see the animals while giving the animals their hiding spaces.
3) Is it possible to get the one way glass moved down the barrier research tree because at level 5 you pretty much have to stick a mechanic and lock him in the workshop for several years to alleviate some of the stress warnings you keep getting from these animals and there are lots of other things that I like to research before needing some of the other barriers... I mean... electric fenses for elephants are cool and all, but I can't even buy an elephant in some of the scenarios but the one way glass is useful for far more animals. It seems odd to have it at the very end of the barriers.

Example: Right now I am having an issue with some protesters showing up and immediately leaving every so often. The cause? I have a female Nyala that is overly stressed and she will stay out while stressed even though there are TWO shelters ( I have them sharing with a pair of antelope and for some reason the large blueprint shelter was too small for 4 animals... >.>;; ) anyway... There doesn't seem to be much of an issue with the set up I am using... maybe? But it's annoying getting her welfare alert popping up so often when it's an issue that sorts itself out rather easily. And just doubly so when protesters show up and like leave immediately once she goes back to her shelter and has a rest and leaves with 95% welfare only to start the cycle all over again 10 minutes later.

I have a mechanic and a vet dedicated to research, I never pay much attention to money in franchise. Somehow I'm always strongly in the green, it seems too easy at times.

Maybe instead of trying to put one way glass try having only one or max 2 viewing spots? For example I have Springboks and they are also very shy so I build them a big exhibit using the log barrier and only put like 4 or five glass barrier pieces on one side and that's it. The guests get pretty crowded at the viewing spot but my Springboks are never stressed.

Sometimes the stressed thing will sort itself out. My flamingos sometimes (especially the babies) get stressed because it's a walk-in exhibit and they just slowly walk into the shelter and hide and the stressed level decreases.

I suggest try playing with different set ups/shelters/viewing spots.

So do I. But I can see this being a problem for someone like me who actually enjoys playing career mode where you would have to do the research all over again for every single scenario. I do plan to play franchise and/or challenge, but I tend to like playing the career mode first in these games.

@PeppyPepp-- Good to know. I will try future pens with that in mind. In the scenario I am currently in, the first one right after the tutorial I have a bit of a fascination with raised platform viewing stages. The guests tend to complain about the view when on the ground, but like higher vantage points. Not being able to modify terrain in the scenarios also kind of led to this idea. It just seems weird that the animal has a hiding place, but chooses not to go there until it is super stressed and even then waits quite a while to do so. I even have drinking stations and food enrichment areas near their shelter fairly out of guest viewing range and it doesn't use them. Guess it's just the AI =/

I had the same problem with the tortiose. People could go inside the habitate. Not very far.
I had like 5 shelters in the habitate but it didnt work. Then I changed the door openings from the shelters, so people could not look inside. I even placed some small walls in the habitate so the tortiose could hide behind it. Also the people can only look at the tortiose when they are inside the habitate. I have raised the fence so that they cannot look over it, when passing by the habitate. When I did all of that, slightly the alerts stop popping up. (give it some time). I hope it would work for you.

Just seen another thread who mentioned using the 'be quiet' signs which apparently help. Haven't tested it myself but thought I'd mention it on this thread because I'd completely missed it. They are in the facilities section with the benches and don't feed signs.

I noticed with my Flamingos that they hated seeing guests at ground level with them, but they could care less about guests on elevated viewing platforms. So I put one way glass (once I got access to it) on the barrier and elevated paths for better viewing for guests.

My Aardvarks also had an issue with being stressed. I tried adding bushes and extra shelters but nothing really helped until I got the one-way glass.

I am wondering, I haven't read everything but does it mention in the Zoopedia which animals are super shy?

and don't feed signs.

but - wait what, that exists in fact? I also read the other post but I thought that was just a joke of that lady which answered 🙃

it would be great to know if these are role play signs only or if they provoce effects.

I'm still not sure if it was a script or happened just by chance, but yesterday I thought I saw my animal running straight to a hamburger and he tasted with his tongue, right after a guest throw it in. while creating a new habitat this flying object surprised me a lot and like said, right after the "throw in" my animal started immediately walking from the lake to that "object"... luckily I've documentated this case:

I have to immediately check out if the signs have functions, the "be quiet" could help lowering animals stress-levels - and with the other sign maybe my guests will stop throwing their food into my habitats then 😀

I had no idea that guests could literally throw food in to the exhibits! D: The signs are under signs in the construction tab. I believe they are standing signs. I saw some for do not feed and be quiet but I thought they were just decorative.

That's a hilarious image of a peafowl eating a hamburger! xD

What I can report regarding to this so far...

I added 2 "be quiet" signs to my pangolin habitat... before they were installed, a stress attack dropped the animals stress-level into the maximal red range.

With the shields and after watching them for one year, a stress attack seems to drop the stress-level only to ~50%, so into the yellow range only.

In both cases they still are fleeing naturally into their houses to stress out.

Not sure if this is just by chance - Needs further investigations... But looks promising!

To anybody who has problem with shy animals - why don't you use one way glass? It doesn't look as good, but that's why it's there.

I think the main problem is one-way glass being a level 5 research item. Which sucks when you are first starting out. I put a mechanic on to research barriers immediately and it still took a long time to get to level 5.

Had my first major issue with my aardvarks today after getting their habitat set up. They literally couldn't be out of their shelter for more than a couple seconds before it plummeted to 0% stress. Like... I get some animals are more shy but that was a ridiculous rate at which it dropped. They were essentially on house arrest until I put up a big rock 'shield' spanning the length of their habitat. They can come out now, but the guests sure can't see them 🤷

Yeah one way glass would be great... But it takes forever to research it, and I'm not even at tier I in barriers yet in my franchise because I figured better staff facilities were more important first.
