Silly question... Where do you park your ship when exploring?

I'm about to set off exploring, but I have a question my fellow explorers...

When logging off, where do you park your ship? Do you just log out near a star? Move away from the star? Or do you land on a planet (if there is one you can land on of course...). Or something else?

Alternatively, are there places where you definitely shouldn't leave your ship when logging off?

Sorry if this is a silly question, but I want to make sure my ship is still there when I log back in!

Thanks.

Somewhere in space, a bit away (10+ Ls) from star & nearest planets.

Parking inside belt clusters or planet rings have reportedly been hazardous, but rarely.

generally, the most safiest option is to fly a bit from the star, and log out. there was a bug some patches back, where you could find yourself inside a planet of a star when not logging out in the middle of nowhere (but that has never happened to me)

i personally either park on a surface, or in the orbit of a waterworld, turn of all moduls beside life support and watch my canopy go frozen.

make sure, you really log out, though. on my first trip to the core i went to bed, without pressing "are you sure? yes!" and ran out of fuel 18k ly from sol - found myself destroyed the next morning.

I at least cruise a couple of hundred LS away from the star, slow down, drop out of SC and log off.
More often than not I drop out of SC and log off within a LS or two of a planet I was scanning.
I've been disconnected before while in SC and logged back with my ship stopped in normal space, but I've never deliberately logged off while in SC.

Sometimes I'll log off while landed, and sometimes even in the SRV. When you log back in, your SRV and ship are still right where you left them.
There used to be a problem when logging off while landed. Sometimes you would log in to find your ship inside the planet, but that doesn't happen anymore. Or at least it's never happened to me.

It's probably best to park it beside a Nav Beacon. That way if you forget where you left it you can easily find it again. I always park my car on top floors of a multi-story parking lot. That way I remember which floor it's on regardless if it has 5 floors!

When exploring I always do the following when parking up for the night:

Exit at last plotted star
Exit supercruise
Log off

Thanks for the replies everyone. Looks like I'm all set for my departure now [smile].

I used to always log off in space, I didn't trust planets because of the bug of falling inside. But I do mostly surface exploring now so when it's time to log off I am usually on a planet. The only bug I have seen lately from logging off on a planet is that sometimes when you log back in you find yourself about 20+km above the surface with all the appearance of being landed. This happens a lot on the small bodies I am exploring, if it does just fire up the thrusters as if taking off and you will be good.

Whatever you do just don't do what I did the first time it happened and try and launch the SRV because it will launch. Mind you it was a nice view from the cockpit of the SRV as I dropped 24km down to the surface :D

I usually land on a planet. Just find a quiet flat place to land and shut her down for the night. I do fear of the falling through planet bug, it's happened to me once while logging back into the game pre-2.2 and it's also happened while landing or coming in from orbit, I'd just fall right though. I think they really fixed this in 2.2 but I still fear it...and yet I like settling in on a planet.

I have shut it down in space before and this is fine too. I'll probably start doing this more soon. Find a quiet place between some star and planet out of the way of everything, coming off Supercruise, come to a complete stop, turn the lights off, and shut her down for the night.
