Simple question about VR

I bought 3 copies of EDO and don't have any kind of VR tag - although I do play in VR often.
EDO has the same VR as Horizons, which works well enough. At least Frontier didn't stick to their "No VR for Odyssey" as was announced initially, that would have been unfunny. As for a full implementatyion, it would be nice, but not essential.

So, in answer to your question: Not me.

How many people in this forum are waiting for a full VR implementation to buy Odyssey?
All I wanted from Odyssey, VR wise, was to be able to fly my ships and operate SRVs over and on the new planets. I was indifferent to the whole Elite Feet thing, and was pleasantly surprised that I enjoy some aspects of it. Which is why I bought Odyssey for my alt, who I intend to sent into deep space exploring, since my main as an LEP. Granted, on my old computer I had to take off my headset to play the game in settlements almost caused me to not buy it for my alt, but in the end all it did was give me enough of an incentive to finally buy the modern computer I'd been planning to get for two years now.

"Full VR implementation," at least to me, means roomscale VR with motion controller, which is pretty low on my priority list. What I want most from ED at this time is to at least become an updated version of FE2 and FFE, when it comes to the variety of planets and starports to be able to land on and fly over. I'd like to see it eventually, but ED first and foremost if a sci-fi ship operation sim. The Elite-Feet portion of the game is just gives me a bit more variety of gameplay to choose from.

At the beginning I also expected it to be fine just to have it on ship and srv. Because I wanted to experience the thin atmospheric worlds and the new associated gameplay.
But then in my case they turned out to be very disappointing (both the new planet tech and the lack of meaningful exploration gameplay).
Now it seems to me that the only reason to buy Odyssey is to enhance the immersion playing some new part of the game on legs (and ignore the new planet tech), but without VR the immersion is drastically reduced (even on legs).

It makes sense for you not to buy it then, doesn't it?

I don't get what the problem is since the free cam thing works in Odyssey on foot doesn't it, why does it flatten it when using the eyeball camera? Is it as simple as someone forgot to set a property on the new player camera?

You can't interact with objects or see the radar in the camera mode. Did they change that?

Used to have a 3 monitor set-up on my old PC but I decided to make do with a single monitor when I upgraded my PC because I also treated myself to a Quest 2, which I figured would suffice for my EDing.

To be fair, I do enjoy playing ED in VR and mining is especially enjoyable when you can look around to get an idea of where all the nearby 'roids are, but I digress.

I just treated myself to a 42" ultrawide, curved, monitor for crimble because the faff of taking the HMD on and off every time I got in and out of a spaceship was just destroying the fun of playing ED for me.
So, erm, what's old is new again. Or something.

Not me. Make Odyssey great in 2D first, then we can talk about VR.

That said, one reason I'm not interested in Odyssey is because I know the performance hit would prevent me from playing any of the game in VR, so I'd rather just stick with Horizons where VR works pretty darn good on my computer.

Just don’t take off the vr headset forehead lol

I’ve been kind of in a holding pattern when it comes to exploration, primarily because I’d like to make an expedition into Guardian and/or Thargoid space once Frontier adds EDO content for those races. I’ve been content with running missions to distant outposts for both my main and my alt in search of pre-engineered gear, on-foot missions to gather engineering materials and a change of pace, and Imperial ranks in general.

^^^ This IMO is the biggest stumbling block for VR adoption of EDO, or EDO in general. My old computer is eight years old, and it took update nine to handle EDO in 2D, and it still can’t quite handle settlements in VR even at low settings.

Granted, my new computer can handle VR in settlements, but it’s a very beefy one, given I’d been putting off upgrading for two years, due to a lack of games that really pushed the envelope.
