Looks like it could so easily be Europe and North Africa either in the future or the past. Is that the idea or just coincidence?

Im guessing the shire must be England somewhere?

You are thinking 'game of thown's' obviously based on northern Europe.

However, Tolken is from central england, and the 'Shire' is in such a place.

War raging in the distance, but a quiet country side where normal people live.
