Simulator Sickness... not bad at all in Elite:Dangerous?

I rarely use my rift these days, but I've never experienced any sickness with it. In my experience with all the games and demos, the ones that require walking around tend to make you sick. I suppose it messes with some higher function in your brain. Anything that involves sitting, like Elite or driving games, your brain is usually okay with that. Roller coaster demos are horrible, though.

By rarely using it do you mean you're playing Elite without it? Or just not playing Elite as much and therefore not using it as much?

Playing without it. I'm really interested in getting a 4k monitor for Elite. I just kinda feel like the novelty has worn off of the rift. It's incredibly difficult to use the Galaxy map and the long supercruises are horribly boring when you're stuck in the rift.

I agree about the Galaxy Map (I actually switch to playing on a monitor when I am using the galaxy map to figure where to plan the route next), but I guess I am still in the honeymoon phase as I really enjoy the long supercruise trips in the Rift! Especially zig zagging between planets from one side of the system to another, when I can swoosh past the main star! I keep looking at the star from the side window and yelling "Wheeee!" when I fly at 100c speed past it. That view just seems to never get old. :)

I don't know why people find the galaxy map so difficult in the rift? It's the easiest thing in the world once you set it up right. I think I'll make a thread about it at some point

Can't find it but they is already a good thread explaining how to manage the Galaxy Map with the Rift. Mainly is you need to drop the mouse and use the stick instead, inclining the view with the stick to see the grid, and selecting the system with one of the hat (X52 in my case). Work more or less well, I still use the mouse to make the grid goes up and down. If you have a better way to proceed I'll be happy to read you ! Anyway, it's a pity we can't use the mouse, this is just a 2D=>3D positioning problem as you can't really select a system using the mouse. All other aspects work pretty well (but fps even at low settings it judder).

Just an idea since I haven't really played many other rift games yet but perhaps the large HUD and cockpit give you a sort of vr anchor point. Meaning as the ship does its thing the HUD and dash stay in the same place relative to you. A first person experience like Minecraft doesn't have this.

Yep, that selection problem is the main reason I find Galaxy Map problematic in the Rift. If I just want to click on all the friend icons to see where each of them are, or search for the next interesting exploration target, I find that is much more convenient using the monitor. After I have selected and written down my target system name, then I can switch to Rift and just type the name of the target system and calculate a route there.

Of course if drkaii has good tips as to how to do that easily on the Rift, please share!
