I like flying ships in space.
As do i. And if we spent HALF as much time flying as we did loading and watching, this would be a great game.
Alas, its mostly a screen shot generator with a side effect of increasing the value of netflix stock and pumping money into LG and Samsung for the second monitor to watch it on.
Bind your left/right joystick or mouse control to roll instead of yaw. It makes a huge difference.FD made a concession on the flight model and I believe it worked...although I wish yaw wasn't quite so slow.
Complaints are often the hallmark of a passionate player that wants to see their game improve.
Same thing with bands...I might follow a band as a "fan", but that doesn't mean I have to love every album they release or I stop being a fan. It just means I think a bit of the work they did was crap (I'll generally be mindful of at least being crap in the name of experimenting), and that will be the kind of feedback that comes across as more striking to an artist than a hundred pages of "Luv it like all your works <3"
Elite is worth improving. If I didn't think a game were improving, I wouldn't have a forum account for it in the first place to complain with - and this is only forum I've ever really been on, aside from a one month stint in the Bungie/Destiny forums, before I realised there appears to be no intention of actually improving the game.
play elite on bbc micro. that used newtonian physics. i remember being attacked and we got one shot at each other as we passed at high speed. it took 5 minutes for each of us to slow down using full power, so we could actually head back at each other... for another fly by strafe. dull as all hell. so all your game examples - the very very first elite game was there doing that first back in the 80s but UNLIKE your games braben dumped that model for something that made for better gameplay. dumped it so fast that the zx spectrum and amstrad games did it a lot better in the same decade. frontier elite II i did not like the semi conscious explanation for speeding up time. it didnt feel right. Please, everyone, can we just get one thing straight? The closest thing ED has to "spaceflight" is warp drives, per Alcubierre - in which space moves around the ship.. which itself remains stationary, and is most categorically not "flying through space" (this is the only reason superluminal travel is possible).
If you want to fly your ship through space, you have to play FE2 or FFE. Or Pioneer, Rogue System etc. etc. because all ED's capable of is slow taxiing velocities. Not meaningful spaceflight in any way, shape or form. Contrary to what that irritating voice in your cockpit keeps repeating, your "flight assist" can not be disabled, and will always prevent you from indulging anything approaching meaningful "spaceflight" speeds. You can rip out your perfectly good engines and thrusters and replace them with the snazziest "engineered" gubbins, and then your "flight assist" will let you reach a very slightly higher slow taxiing speed, at a cost of millions, but it makes absolutely zero substantive difference - at 1 km/s you're still basically anchored stationary and not going anywhere in meaningful 'spaceflight' terms. Every real space craft that ever flew, from the 1950's til now, is vastly, inordinately, incomparably faster than your pathetic go-faster-stripes fully-pimped ED submarine-in-custard.
Compliment the lack of basic flight controls or useful instrumentation, or the untiring thrill of having stars, planets and stations repeatedly smashed in your face, because those things are actually there, present in the game. "Spaceflight", by any coherent, legitimate measure of the word, is just so not.
Praise the buggy-driving minigame all you want - if you like playing a rehashed version of Infestation using a £200 HOTAS setup - if that's your bag - fine. No objections here. If you enjoy nothing more than disabling attitude stabilisers and just wobbling around for a while, that's cool too. Not my cup of tea, but each to their own. But for the love of Crimmony, can we please drop this hideous farce that ED rewards any semblance of basic "spaceflight", because it so doesn't, it hurts. (It's literally agonising to even try approaching a planet in (ahem) "normal space" (spit).
Just please stop trolling me or i'll get the mods onto all o' y'allz.

OW, somebody is cranky... must have gotten out of bed on the wrong side. This is a simple thread about saying something nice.... your techno babble doesn't hurt anything but it does distract from the theme of the thread.... this is not trolling but a simple view of someone who likes positive threads.

LOL too true, also if you are complaining about the audio you can turn that off.. Never seen a video game that had as many Audio settings to customize it the way you want.

Really, LOL you don't know what the real speeds of our rockets are... no where close to the speeds we have in Elite (Ah can you say light speed).. if they had a ship capped to rocket speed.. you would have to come back to your PC years later... just to get to the edge of the solar system. From the surface of the planet to the moon took 3 DAYS! Yeah the ships in Elite are SOoooo much slower... LOL Really? :S Talk about talking out of your butt!
Just another sad depressed human looking for a target for their rage.. the post said a positive tread.. great I am going to try and ruin it... pathetic behavior since their argument was one of the dumbest things I have ever read.
