Since Void Opal was nerf

I want to make 5 Billion to buy fleet carrier but since i saw how badly void opal was nerf and how long it takes to find core asteroids i dont see a way to make 5 billion that wont take month's to make if im lucky. I was seeing out for the carriers but lost hope now. Why did they nerf it? carriers is so expensive. Why? 5 billion is........ a lot om money, and with normal missions you will atleast spend up to 200 to 400 hours to get that money. Is a carrier really then worth the time then?

The quick tip is spot on. Painite is the way to go. Straight surface mining looking for bulk. I'm not the greatest miner by any means but I can collect around 170 tons an hour in a non-engineered cutter.. Today I'll sell at around 950,000 credits. Working the market through a third party source such as Inara can help. Down to Earth Astronomy has a very complete Youtube video that is very useful.

Best of luck commander.

How much do you make an hour with that method?

I don't really keep tabs on my hourly rate as mining bores the hell out of me (more of a combat pilot).
I just mine until I get bored, flog what I've got and go do some combat missions.

I can tell you I made just over a Billion CR over two casual afternoons last time I did it. Probably 4-5 hours each session.

Thank you, that info helps a lot.

Thank you, im a anaconda pilot so ill do it with my anaconda.

My Anaconda is also my mining ship, comes in handy with loads of optional slots, hard points and a good jump range.

Just keep in mind the "Bulk Tax" when you go to sell it.

I don't fully understand the mechanics behind it, although that info is easy to find I've just never bothered to look it up.

But trying to dump a full hold of anything into a market seems to net you a lower overall price per unit.

I usually fill up halfway and go sell it off.

I thought FD only created carriers for those who had amassed billions and were clamouring for somthing to spend it on. Then FD decided to nerf mining to ensure that those who haven't got billions to buy a FC had to endure the life-sucking monotony FD consider emergent gameplay in order to do so. Or not. :D

Well i spend an hour today to find just 30 void opals so finding painite instead ill give it a go.
be aware, you want a painite hotspot in a METALLIC, not metal rich ring. because in metal rich painite hotspots you only get painite CORES (and the same bug with the pulse wave analyser occurs as hunting VO. VO haven't been nerved, just the PWA is somewhat broken for most).

this tool is golden to locate painte metallic hotspots: https://edtools.cc/miner

Just to correct you, core mining wasn't actually purposely nerfed as you have implied (by using the word nerf). After the last patch that tried to fix something, the PWA has a bug so it makes core mining much harder than it was before. You have to keep turning around from where you've been to see the glowing rocks which many (including I) find painful. For now I'd go with laser mining Painite as the others have said.

Another, albeit slower method, OP would be stacked massacre missions (you said you prefer combat).

My fav spot is Hip 20277 > Fabian City.

7 mission givers that can all offer (depending on BGS state) missions to kill Calennero pirates.

With a few board refreshes a single kill counts towards upto 7 missions at a time.

Add a KWS and rank 2 PP bonus for ALD and should easily be able to hit ~100m/hour, more if you fly in a wing and share missions before cashing them in.

As I said, slower, but if you don't enjoy mining it's a pretty good (and fun) alternative.

You'll also net shedloads of mats and Fabian City conveniently has a manufactured mat trader so nothing goes to waste.

Hope it helps

If you're flying a ship with a reasonable amount of cargo space, ideally a Python, Conda or above then you could quite easily make enough within a couple of weeks mining Painite and selling it to a nearby carrier for the typical sum of 715k per tonne. Easy to find, easy to mine. Good luck.

And now it's your turn: How would you describe laser mining?

Oh - May I reply to this too?

I dare say you're expecting people to say its boring as hell just staring at the same rocks. But I challenge you and everyone else here to try laser mining in a resource extraction site. Yes you need to deal with some npc's as you mine, but it takes thought in your ship build, plus skill in mining and its far less boring. But the benefit is close to a 100% bonus to fragment yield (in a haz res).

So I reply with, its dangerous, its fun, and definately rewarding!.

I actually enjoy some laser mining in a secluded part of space on my own, watching the cute little limpets flying around. It can get boring after a while but it's not so bad if you mix it up with a bit of exploration as well. I have to say that exploration and mining in general is much more fun now I have a fleet carrier to take with me.
