Since when have Fighters no Datalink Scanner anymore???

Question is that!
It's absolutely tedious to approach 200m at Loglinks on Megaships or anything else with big ships. Also on Surface Sites wjth high security the fast running in, catching the scan and running out isn't possible anymore.
WHY?!?

Edit:
Also assaulting Megaships, one of the main aspects of the SLFs (combat) is out now. Without data link scanner, we can't target the submodules of the turrets anymore or other systems of the megaships. That's really bad.
Are the Fighters really reduced to pure pewpew without even proper targeting ir identifying the targets? :/

That's just awkward (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
I'm upset! :(

You sure they're actually gone, and not just removed from assigned fire groups?
I know the last two updates have removed my discovery scanner from all fire groups and I had to remap it.

Edit: Nope, just checked for myself - the data link scanner has indeed been removed from the fighter. Not cool, Frontier, not in the patch notes, shouldn't have been done.

"fast"? What kind of ships do you usually fly? I mean, I don't use SLFs, but according to the EDWiki, they run between 300 base and 570 boost. For surface scan mission, I use this. That's what I would consider fast.

I don't think they've ever had a datalink scanner, just a composition scanner.

Edit: Yep, checked all of my SLF videos going as far back as 2.2.02...not a data link scanner to be seen.

That means they not only removed it now, but also altered the timeline, to make sure it's not in your videos any more. Isn't it amazing how far they go when they want to remove such a thing? :D ;)

Than you've just never assigned them to a fire group.
I've usedto take the SLFs for the lost megaships that can be found and scanned the datalogs with it. That's not possible anymore :(

Reminds me I need to finish reading that book series sometime. Late time I was into it the author was still alive.

Brandon Sanderson took over the last bit. It improved the series, as did the more personal and urgent note added as Jordan was reaching the end of his road.

:D S

Changing fire groups is the first thing I do when I get in an SLF as I never have countermeasures on triggers and don't keep both weapons on the same trigger when there are two available.

I don't recall ever seeing the datalink scanner and I have videos going back to shortly after SLFs were released that show the module and/or fire group panels...with not datalink present.

I've got hundreds of hours flying SLFs, and dozens of hours of archived SLF video. I still cannot find any evidence of the datalink scanner ever being present. I've also done countless surface base assaults and been to many generation ships using SLFs. If the datalink scanner were present, I would had used it, but I cannot find any examples of my doing so, nor do I have any recollection of doing so.

I suppose it's possible that I've just over looked it, hundreds or thousands of times, but I am very skeptical.

Do you have any examples of it being used from the SLF or any proof that it was ever present?

If the wiki is right datalink scanners weren't added to ships until 2.3.
Maybe they weren't added to fighters until later?

I have memory of them being there earlier this year during my one period of using fighters a lot, but no proof so I'm quite possibly mixing things up.

@Morbad, because you are like a living archive, you got any fighter footage from 3.0?

First video I linked was from 2.3.11 and there is not data link scanner in the fire group pane.

I was on a break from the game from a few days after the 3.0 beta ended until near the end of 3.0.5, but I did find a video from August 2018 (during 3.1.2) where I looked at my Condor's fire groups:

Later, in 3.3, the composition scanner shows up on SLFs, but still no datalink scanner:

I may be able to find more examples, but it's a huge pain to flip through countless videos to see if I glanced at the module pane at some point...especially since this is not the sort of stuff I ever thought I'd be looking up.

Really appreciate that Morbad, thanks. My vague memory is indeed dangly bits.
