General / Off-Topic Sir Patrick Moore to be remembered in ED?

:( This is very sad news indeed. Sir Patrick was one of a kind. I loved The Sky At Night and watched it since the 1970s. Rest In Peace Sir Patrick and thanks for all you did to promote space & astronomy. Many owe you so much.

Should he be remembered in Elite Dangerous? Absolutely.

Oops, should have referred to him as Sir Patrick Moore.

Michael, any chance you can amend the thread title?

I sent Patrick a letter when aged 8 from school asking him if he could recommend any books on Jupiter. He sent a telegram back telling me there were several goods ones out there and perhaps I should try in the local library, though he never said which books!

Still got the telegram as a framed print in my study :) RIP

Sad news indeed. I remember Sir Patrick when I was growing up: he was the 'Gamesmaster' in the show Dominic Diamond hosted back in the day. Happy memories. RIP, big fella.

Sad news indeed. We'll mark him in some way in the game.

Michael

Pleased about that Michael.

Very sad news, always enjoy Sky at night, It'd been a little while but I still enjoy astronomy at a very amature level.

Glad he will get some 'memorial' via Elite Dangerous, i'm sure his work on astronomy will have influenced David (and Ian) at some point in their lives, maybe before even Elite was a concept?

Let's not forget his sterling contribution to the games industry also! He was the Games Master:

Lol i remember GamesMaster and how Sir Patrick always had utter disdain for the kids asking for help...

Kid: GamesMaster, how do i get to the level select on Sonic
GM: Now listen here you spotty oik, its so simple even you can do it... Up Down Left Right A B C and Start. Did you get that?!

:D :p

Always enjoyed Sky at Night (even here in Aus) I loved him when I was little, got his books, saw him on The Goodies at times...........he was a champion for science that inspired so many of us and helped me to a large degree get into Astronomy and Astrophysics.

So glad to hear he will have a part in ED.

RIP Sir Patrick we salute you sir !
