Sirius rank 5 bonus - 8 weeks eplorations - 433 M

Hi explorers,

I made a nice 8 week exploration trip, with 3300 systems visited.

- Planetary nebulas : 30 first discoveries on 38 visited, by far the best part of the trip
- Earth like : 20+, and the best part was a ringed earth like binary with a ringed gas-giant. (COL 173 SECTOR QP-C C14-4)
- Neutron stars and black holes, mainly 'farmed' when traveling between sites of interest, still ~1500
- Lots of nice locations for screen shots, the coolest part of any exploration trip.
- Many regular nebulas, while nice I prefer the planetary ones.

Also, I used 100M in cash to rank up to lvl5 with Sirius Corp, and got crazy money for it, with a total of 433 M
The +200% does apply to both raw data price and first discovery bonus. The +200% value count for the exploration rank,
which means that in principle one can reach elite with ~60M in exploration data.

I a lot of planetary nebulas, but got bored at some point, so I didn't visit all of them.
These are most likely first discoveries to be done, here is a list (they are quite clustered).

Congratulations on your trip, and being one of the first to use the Sirius +200% bonus with great effect!

I have very little knowledge about powerplay (I have been exploring from before it was released), but is it really as simple as donating 100M, and then start selling your data? Because in that case every explorer that makes a trip of at least 50M value, would make extra money by pledging to sirius and donating 100M before selling data. Is this correct?

Well, you need to ferry 10K tons of power play commodities, which frankly is grindy as hell.
On the other hand, it solves your money problems for a long time, so, I think it's still worth it.

Which would be fine, except for having your 3300 systems at risk of loss from an accidental button press, PvP'er or trigger happy NPC Anaconda wing....

Also, looks like you beat me home to a few of those planetary nebula. Whilst I partly wish I had gone back to cash them in over a month ago, I'm enjoying being on the far side, and will seek out others on my way back.

Well done, CMDR!

Good to point out the risk. But the difference in pay is really big!
Normal selling = 433/3 = 144M
Sirius pledge and grind to level 5 = 433-100 = 333M
Difference = 333-144= 189M

Unless you are very risk averse, it just seems too good to pass up...

Well done Muetdhiver!

The Sirius Corp thing still isn't for me, but I am glad that some real explorers are managing to take advantage of it.

I may try it - depending on how it goes when I get back. Needless to say, I'll be in my Python, not my Asp. Something capable of putting up a proper fight...

nice one!

is it worth it in my case? i have 21m in cash, planning on coming back in 8 days. so i sell 79m of my projected 150m, then i buy merits for 100m, then i sell the other 71m with 200% bonus = 213m. and a week later 253m. is that correct? what happens the week after? do i get money again? how much?

I expect this will get 'adjusted' quicker than you can say "NERFBAT!" - My guess would be 1st thing Monday, hope I'm wrong :)

Grats on a nice trip! Care to share your technique for finding the procedurally generated planetary nebula? When I was in the core I came across a few, but only by chance.

I don't think that the bonus should count for exploration ranking. Being able to get Elite for just a 3rd of the normally required actual exploration credits doesn't make sense. The bonus is a result of past profits and then using them for hauling. Exploration rank should depend only on exploration activity.

Just switch of all dots and look for colour (works best in the core)
You will find alot, very quickly

Similar. Well done and no criticism of you at all, but I will be reporting it as an exploit. You shouldn't be able to shortcut ranking progression.

I hope you're wrong too, but, well I guess you're not. Making profit from game mechanics is a bad, bad, bad exploit. When scanning the entire galaxy, I guess, as soon as I'm back, there will be a "weekly limit" for profit around 50. Mio for non-PP income.. ;(

I'm tempted to do this myself but since I have *zero* knowledge or understanding of PP, can someone explain how you spend 100MCr to boost rank?
Are you simply buying merits with cash instead of going out and doing something to earn them?

I'm at Lembava and sold about half of all my data so far. I've got the cash to do this and boost my earnings for the remainder of my data, but without knowing/understanding how the ranks work within Powers, I'm understandably reluctant to commit. Like Muetdhiver, I also have more than enough to achieve Elite so it's not like I'm using this mechanic to leapfrog or exploit the rank progression.

It's basically earning 10,000 merits as fast as you can (delivery missions via the contacts tab). You can fast-track the PP goods by buying them instead of waiting for the timer to allocate you them. The problem you have is that even if you buy your way to 10,000 merits today, you won't get rank 5 until the next reset (Thurs morning UK time). So if you can wait til then to sell then do it, if no - sell now. Hope this helps :)
