Any of you playing this on PS4? I'm thinking this might be the year I get a PSVR rig (next time Amazon is having a sale). I played the original Skyrim on PS3, and despite crappy graphics compared to PC, it was an amazing experience. I'd love to actually visit Skyrim 'in person' via VR.
I run about 14 mods including a 2k texture mod, on the original Skyrim at it look great. I run it through Vorpx which will run poorly on anything less than a 1080ti, I suspect, but am happy not to have to replace the game and love that I can use Touch. That said, I find myself drawn in to Fallout 4 VR so much these days. I had played Skyrim through more than once so it has become a little old now. Fallout 4 VR is really sucking me in big time, having never played it before VR and it is really quite gorgeous.
First impression (no mods) - mindblowing! Even more so than Elite, when I first tried it in VR. I think it's because Skyrim (as in land) is so well designed and aesthetically pleasant, with epic views and awesome places to visit. Plus, it's not just monotonous space, but an actual land with mountains, forests, animals, settlements, monsters and so on.
Being a passionate modder, I couldn't start my playthrough without modding it first. It started with the usual "Just a few mods" and then I fell for the usual addict-modder syndrome ("I will just add this one next and that's it!") and have ended up with this monster of a modbuild The initial testing was good, I didn't notice any issues. Apparently Skyrim VR is more stable than normal version. We'll see when I start the actual playthrough

After adding those mods the experience is just jawdropping. I'm thinking goodbye world for the next few months.
I will be adding more VR specific mods to this build, but I want to get a feel of the VR gameplay first to see what can be adjusted and improved. For now I only have 1 VR mod which shows your character in the inventory screen.
Having spent last few days preparing and testing that build and generally looking into VR modding, there are more good news than bad news!
1) Most of the mods will work without any problems.
2) You can use advanced modding tools like Mod Organizer 2, TES5EDIT, Wrye Bash or LOOT, but some fiddling with directory names is required and you need to make a copy of EXE file and rename to the same as Special Edition one.
3) SKSE VR is here!
4) Modder like Chesko (Frostfall, Campfire) are already working on VR conversions of their mods.
Bad news is that there are no UI replacement mods and PapyrusUtil are not working yet (needs SKSE VR specific conversion).
Prognosis are good though, you can tell that the modding community embraced the VR and I can't wait what they will come up with. Honestly, modding community, especially the one at Nexus site, is hands down the best community out there. Imagine Elite community, but without the salt and vitriol (save for some minor stuff, the usual). That's pretty much Nexus community.
For now, I am starting my new Skyrim adventure. The character is Fjoldvik, Nord warrior - soon to become Dragonborn and to join Companions, to then be transformed into a werewolf to then kill Alduin. I will probably do Dragonborn DLC with that character as well. By the time I'm done I'm hoping for more interesting VR mods to be out there, so I can have some fun with magic, probably leaving stealth character (Thieves Guild + Brotherhood) for the end. Exciting times!
If you have Special Edition (either direct purchase or as the freebie if you owned the original plus all DLC), then yes - just copy the savegame across. I'm not sure if there's a way to take a save from the original to SE/VR (if you got SE for free you can try it with that before buying VR, otherwise you'll need to research it).
TBH it's worth replaying from scratch in VR anyhow; it's a whole new way to experience the content, and the storyline is so much more involving when you really feel like you are there with the characters (they look straight at you, tracking as you move your head or body - when there are two or more having a multi-way conversation with you, I've occasionally spoken aloud to interject!).
Bought Skyrim VR to go with it (also Fallout VR, and PayDay 2, both of which I haven't touched yet).
It has a very different feel to the game than the original or SE - so much so that I'd recommend getting it and starting from scratch even if you've already played through more than once. It's a totally difference experience.
Oh, and rootsrat - thanks for the mod list. Rep +1.

I highly recommend going through the whole guide (compare my modlist with his list to see which mods I've skipped as they are not compatible with VR). I chose all the textures the the highest available quality (4K/2K) and I chose my own installation options for some mods. Also, his CR patch needs to be customised, as there are no Convenient Horses and Live Another Live installed, and those are master files for the patch. If you're going to follow the whole thing and don't know how to fix the patch in TES5EDIT let me know and I'll send you the customised patch I made.
Also, don't just slap all those mods in random order and hope for the best

I wondered where this thread had gone. Got moved out of VR section? Oh well, Mods know best I suppose!
I'm still getting a lot out of Skyrim VR, in fact it has had the effect of highlighting to me how weak resource gathering in ED actually is. In Skyrim (VR or nonVR) the process of getting materials feels very organic and quick to action. In ED, there's running around in a buggy going PEW PEW then running over EACH and EVERY rock in turn to collect it before your buggy runs out of fuel or hull.
In Skyrim VR I'm out in the open or down in a dungoen, doing some questing, like one does, and there's a seam of metal ore to plunder with my Pick Axe, or there are weapons to loot from defeated foes, or there is places to search, barrels to open, locks to pick.... And so on. Just a much more entertaining grind. Still a grind, but it doesn't always feel that way.
In ED, it always seems to feel that way. I have to find a specific place to kill bad guys, then spend ages collecting all the bits (while better bad guys are being destroyed by NPC police) or drop down on a planet and wonder around searching a moon for the odd rock, while passing many other rocks that are apparently no good for mining.
It's all a bit pants.
As a tech demo sim of a space ship, nothing better at the moment, as an acutal game..... Well, I've played a lot of MMO's, and this isn't the best implementation at all. In fact if it were not for nostalgia, my HCS voice packs, and a nice HOTAS that I like to use, I am not sure I would play it much at all.
So, Skyrim VR is for me, an ED killer.
A shame as ED could be so much more. Maybe I need to join a player faction. Maybe that's where it's at these days.

I just got the PSVR Skyrim edition, and right now the "different feel" I'm getting is one of extreme dizziness. I think I will restart my character to be a heavy armor tank who can stand in one place and absorb punishment, because the fast moving combat style I used back when I first played Skyrim in 2D isn't working for me in VR.

You will develop immunity to it in time. It's a matter of your brain getting used to it. For starters try teleportation movement system, as smooth movement can be really bad at start. It's because your eyes send information to the brain that your body is moving, but it's really not and the brain gets confused. That's simplifying it of course, but that's basically what causes the nausea - difference between visual and physical signals coming to the brain.
Also, bear in mind that some people are just more sensitive to it than others. I can spend hours in VR, while my wife has enough after 30-40 minutes.
