True... blowing them up with massively overpowered ships is much more fun, isn't it...
But you can get them back by docking with a Sidey and then going boom and taking out one of their docking pads.

However, I play solo so it's not an issue for me.
I don't like MP since there are too many douchbags who fly OP ships and love to gank players in easy to kill ships "because they can". Put them against someone of equal strength and they run like scared chickens. Had enough of that in Eve Online.

Sure it's easy to escape this kind of situation when you know the game a little bit (or are not naive),

Or have used google once in your lifetime. Or know someone else who has used google once in their lifetime, like a parent maybe. Whilst playing a computer game, which does indicate that you might be minimally tech-savvy.

Of course, that also leaves the issue of whether if brains were dynamite, would you have enough to blow your hat off, which I suspect is the root cause of the problem and one that's far less easy to legislate against.

Just think, some of these adults caught up in this scam have internet access and a credit/debit card. I think slave mining is the least of their worries.

They're probably the ones you read about in the Daily Star who are getting evicted because their kid 'accidentally' spent thirteen grand on batman costumes in Fortnight and now it's all Somebody Else's Fault TM.

The 'issue' with new players being the prime 'ship go boom' entertainment for a minority of the playerbase has been (allegedly) going on since just after launch... Nothing is done about it as it appears that 'emergent gameplay', no matter how one-sided it might be, is accepted as 'good' gameplay by Frontier. (Think about it, had this not been so we would have separate PvP & PvE modes already)

The only 'outrage' in this topic appears to be that a minor was involved - whose care was handed to another minor rather than a responsible adult - and they found themselves in an 'adult fare' (I'll use the term very loosely) discord where the usual excrement is standard fare.

The rest, as we have read, is just headlines, or maybe just the 'wrong kind' of 'emergent gameplay'...

There will probably be attempts at similar 'copycat' schemes for a few months, after all, we do have a very 'interesting' range of folk in the playerbase for whom such a scam would appear enticing ;)

The current scam has been dealt with, let's wait for the next.

Yeah, so?

You can always say that prostitutes don't need to work the way they do, yet it doesn't make those who are exploiting them less quilty.

Some people lack certain attributes, like f.ex intelligence or experience. It doesn't make it right to exploit those people.
The same when people are using someone's emotional need to be a part of a group - they're preying on people's weaknesses and that is simply wrong.

Emergent does not equal one player exploiting another, nor the actions of other players to undo the damage.

Emergent is all the FC trips to Colonia and Sag A and Rackhams Peak and all the rest that loads of 'naive' people are trusting to be true.

Emergent does not mean an adult realising they are talking to a child and continuing the behaviour, and if they didnt realise they were talking to a 7yo then maybe they are the ones who need supervising online, or locking away from other people.

that might deter people from taking new players prisoner.

Banning to Solo is a much more permanent and effective solution though. Both as a deterrent to others and a hard stop to that behaviour from people who cant be trusted in the first place.

Overall liking the hysterical faux-outrage that cheaters got banned though and the attempts to build straw-men all over. soo much salt over a couple of cheaters who are self-publicising that they targeted a child and dont see it as wrong. Besides theyve lost nothing but a ship as they always say. Its just a game theres nothing important to lose so they say....

They don't have enough credits to buy an IQ yet.

Sorry I haven't read the entire thread so maybe already covered, but is this a bad time to bring up the "free Anacondas @Hutton" thingy?
Nah. Unless you can bring in a few catchwords like "systemic racism" and such, you're unlikely to catch the eye of the likes of Polygon and Kotaku.

They're not quite smart enough to use logic yet, but, with a few centuries of evolution to help them, they might, might reach a level that one could call "sentient".
