SLF bay in SCO overcharge optimised ships

Without a pilot there isn’t a lot of point to having an SLF on board, your ship is even more vulnerable flying itself while you are in the fighter than it is with the fighter pilot flying it.
One of the issues.
But you can find a pilot just anywhere...
Plus also your ship can still use its turrets if set to fire at will!
((Unless that feature was broken in the last 2 years?))

I have two elite pilots. At least one of them is eating my earnings just because of my hope she will ever be useful. :D

All true and I guess "real explorers" are laughing at me, as an SLF bay could be an extra LY of jump range. I'm sure not many consider this a hindrance.

I am kinda worried that FDev might consider SLF-s a problem in general though - the inactivity of Guardian hybrid fighter persists IIRC, if you fly a fighter your pilot may simply boost away from the fight, we were unable to use fighters in the war against Thargoids as they created a lot of connectivity problems for wings etc. etc. Maybe SLFs will just be sidelined by the new ships...
i truly hope not, as a solo player i rely on my SLF, just to have another ship around me as much as anything.

i do think the designers of the python mk2 (as in from a role play / in game perspective, not second guessing the elite devs) missed a trick not factoring in an SLF bay in the python MK2.

PS an exploration based SLF would be amazing, just as amazing as a mining focussed one.

i could leave my ship in orbit and fly down in an SLF giving me the landing ability of a tiny ship whilst still having access to the convenience of a larger ship. (yes SLF ships are remote flown at the moment but they are still capable of carrying a meat sack in them as well

so for flat ground i would still use my SRV to drive around but for the mountainous plants i could land with an SLF

I was really hoping at least Corsair would be able to fit an SLF bay, but all the info says it can not. I know this is not a usual wish for an exploration ship but I do have the SLF bay with me on all explo trips, mostly for the fun of it. Once in a while one wants to NOT be extremely careful while flying and SLF does the trick without risking the loss of all exploration data.

SCO emerges as a must-have drive. Seriously, I use it all the time, even to just get around the star when not scooping or to get from the surface of a planet to a scanning distance to see the plant-life zones. Also, if you like doing missions in-bubble, it saves you hours and hours of staring at the void.

That said, no ship, optimised for SCO overcharge, can fit an SLF bay. Unless you want to get rid of SLFs in general, please make at least some of them able to fit the fighter bay. Right now I am travelling with a Krait mk.II and, while being a great ship all around, I have to watch that fuel gauge all the time, more than the distance to the destination... So I'd love to have an option of an SCO-optimised ship, able to sport a fighter.

Right now it kinda looks like SLF-s will become the thing of the past as more and more people will hop into an SCO optimised ship just for the convenience of it. I'd hate to see that happen as I find SLF-s to be a really cool feature.

BTW, FDev, THANK YOU FOR THE SCO DRIVE, it really is a game changer!
I’d like more SLF independence, flexibility- very cool little craft planet side.

The Panther should have at least 4 fighter bays, to be fair
With the ability to have them all active with SLF pilots simultaneously!

Panther Clipper definitely looks like a ship that will function like say actual ships and you won't be able to use it as a fighter, always pointing your nose to the target and use gimballed or fixed weaponry. So you know, turrets and SLFs all the way! Sounds really cool now that I say it. :D;)

Of course!

They could do something super bold and have something so slow and immobile that you are outright expected to have both you and multiple members in fighters as the main means of defence. A mini-carrier. But I suspect it will manoeuvre like a Type 8 and still be covered in turrets with a massive shield and a decent jump range 😹

I won't be sad if it is. I am delighted to see a touch of the F:E2 design sneaking back. The Mandalay looks a lot like the old Osprey, a ship I could never justify flying but always wanted a reason to. I would love to see a Kestrel as the next one, although it's not a gazillion miles from the Mamba.

It's already been mentioned I'm just dredging it back up..
But a size 1 module that stabilises SCO for non native ships would address Op.
Or placed in a utility slot.
