Small Mining Settlement: FPS Drop, Stuttering, Crashes

Mod hat off - personal opinion.

No, just because some people have performance issues does not mean the game is in any way unplayable and any problems are at their own end - whether network issues or hardware issues which can have an impact on performance but are nothing to do with the game itself.

I'm not in the habit of taking screenshots to show FPS, so only took the one, but its clear there is a problem.

Curious. I never encountered the problem in this type of settlement. There really must be something weird going on.

Anyone else experience this? In particular a burning one with scavengers and dead bodies.

On approach the FPS drop down to single digits, it starts to stutter and there is a chance for it to crash immediately. After a few minutes, whatever it was hanging itself with gets sorted out and FPS goes back to normal. On foot, walking through the settlement, the same can repeat. Trying to fly away will cause the same stuttering while the assets start unloading. Trying to supercruise before that is a guaranteed crash. Only flying away and letting it settle itself out when the settlement unloads some 20km out will allow you to enter supercruise without crashing; sometimes.

I haven't had anything like this happen to me before, so maybe it's just my side, hence me asking for other player's experiences.
Update5 introduced it. For some its worse than others, I get drops below 20FPS but it is so erratic it is unplayable during that time (15 framesin the first part of the second, than 2 in the other half for example).

Yeah, its bizarre. I powered this one up, there was no fires and no scavs, just a skimmer or two (iirc) once powered up.
Funny though, once powered up, I could not reproduce the FPS drop, even with it all lit up and open for service.

I've been to much bigger settlements and not had a problem, but also have. Mixed bag, something odd going on.

I swear there is something in planets though that's also causing massive FPS drops. While exploring I could be walking around on the most bland planet ever and (surprisingly) get 60-70 FPS when I look straight ahead. The second I look down at my feet - massive drop.

I've never had the crashing, but everything else yep... I upgraded the proc in my MB and its not nearly as bad as it was, but still very bad...

Yeah, same for me, had drops in framerates every so often after update 5, but soon after that there was a server-side only update, and now have drops in framerates way more. I lowered supersampling to 0.85 which seemed to help for a few days, but now (since last weekend) with same setting, it seems a bit worse.

i have this on and around settlements. I can be getting around 35 frames a second when everything just goes into a slideshow and it drops to single frames for a bout 20 seconds before going back to normal again. I dont even need to move position. Just stop dead in my tracks wait for the mega stutter to stop then start on my way again.

I could speculate that its related to ships flying overhead and the game trying to plot them as i have noticed anecdotally that shortly after a stutter fest a ship can be seen coming into land on a pad.

With this type I only have minor Stuttering. The FPS drop but to about 15fps and recovers quickly, less than 5 seconds, although it may happen several times
There are other types, as i said with a CMD building, that really kills it for me. Like 5 fps and for 10--30 seconds.

That's interesting because some plants when I look at them really jam up the GPU. I'll be at 70% or so with 45FPS, then look at one of those stoney looking wrinkled things and boom, the GPU is pegged and low frames. Like maybe there is a sliver of space that opens to the inside you're not supposed to see. The settlement stuttering thing is different though. The GPU percent actually lowers when it happens. Like the frames are simply not being drawn because they are not coming out of the application.

Holy guacamole.

I was away 6 months. I also now have the low fps on approaching a settlement. It is unsettling I tell you!

I use a 3080 ftw3. fps was always very good even at launch! But this is just odd man. I need a fix.

The game works fine, you just need a RTX 4090Ti.
