Small Ships are often overlooked

I'm totally gonna make a fun 'meme ship' at some point
You do know that once you get started it's gonna be hard to stop?

Things were slightly harder when I started playing and I missed being able to afford some ships... Now a few years on and 'established' I'm having a ball 'going backwards' with ships!

Get the ships you want, git gud flying them, rake in credits, do the stuff that interests you. Then, when you fancy a change of pace build the Dolphin, or Viper IV tank, whatever you want, even if they don't do what you wanted, the chances are you'll be smiling anyway.

i mean... Vulture is one of my favorites and its a small
And the vulture is one of the most popular ships because its a jack of all trades.

To OPs point its not so much that small ships are overlooked its that small ships cant multi role as well as big ships. For example the coda, there is a reason its the most popular ship in the game, because it can do what ever you want it to do, and it does it very very well.

That flexibility does not exist as easily as other ships and on the small/medium ships that it does exist on, you noice a trend that they tend to be the more popular ships, with the example of the Vulture, and the python, both being considered some of the best ships in the game for their buck.

So its not so much that small ships are overlooked because they are bad, or that people just dont realize their glory, its just that why work to make a small or medium ships good when you can get the big ship you actually want and kit it to do what the other ships does just as good and or if not better. Again, the conda is the shining example of this.

Because they're boring. :D

And lots of people don't like, or y'know...actually want, big boring ships. Being boring isn't one of their game choices.

Conda is indeed the shining example of this.

Indeed it is!
I've bought 3 Anacondas over the last 3 years, the last one I kept for a whole week before it was sold off again. I just couldn't get to like anything about it, even in VR.
I did try though ;)

Since people mentioned CZ and small ships... this is my CZ chaining Vulture.
It can chain CZ after CZ after CZ. And quite fast actually
The trick is picking the right targets (no point to waste time with the enemy captain when there are enough eagles and asps and vultures around) and going for the PP every single time

Okay I honestly ignored your question because I knew my answers would anger people, but meh, here goes.

1. Cobra was the first real ship I could afford, so to me it's a noob ship not worthy of returning back to. Can't say I have many fond memories in that thing.
2. Cobra is ugly. It's just SO ugly.
3. iCourier is a premium ship requiring Rep unlocks, so to me it should be superior in nearly every aspect to the Cobra. Not to mention the millions of credits price difference.

I know there are veterans who swear by their little engineered Cobra and that's great for them, it's just not for me. Still haven't decided, but I think the Krait Phantom would be my ideal bubble-bus. If I can be pried out of my Anaconda.... :p
This is easy, being the Courier behind a rank grind means nothing literally, because it's inferior to many other Smalls in all aspects, then you can think whatever it suits you but your postulate is wrong in substance ;) Facts speak for it,just go to Coriolis and theory craft some builds,it's all there.

You clearly didn't try hard enough. :p I think the first time I landed one on a planet and drove around it in the SRV, it took my breath away. It's so intricate and detailed. It's so BIG but so personable. It's like a giant space barge on the bottom, Star Destroyer on top. And I mean...what can't I do - and do damm well - in this ship? It's so forgiving and comfortable, but so raw and powerful at the same time. I never have to make sacrifices in the fitting. I never suffer a horrible jump range for my choices like other ships. And with just a bit of Engineering, it's more combat capable than a stock Corvette. People sound like they try to dogfight in this ship or something, that's stupid. You park it in the HazRez, go FaOff, and nothing will get the better of you.

There's so few ships that stand up to the Anaconda as a total package.

I've owned and flown a bunch of ships, and I still fly my DBS the most. Its main drawback is lack of module space, but it is a blast to fly, and can be engineered to suit a range of roles.

For fans of rail guns, it's hard to pick a better ship.

Phew I am not the only one. Just can't seem to find a use for the Conda nor enjoy flying it either. It can't beat the Corvette as a high end armed mission runner, it can't beat the Cutter as a bulk carrier, I don't enjoy exploring in it - just can't find a use for it. And before everyone jumps in and tells me what I am doing wrong, it is entirely a personal preference, nothing you say or do will change my opinion :D

That's why I give the advice on finding ships you like ;)
Many people swear by the Anaconda, whereas I swear at it - call it a clash of personalities, we are like cat & dog!
I don't mind sluggish, flew a fully kitted out T-10 to Sag A* and still regularly fly the Cutter for cargo shifting...

Maybe in the future I'll give it a month, just in case...

I use my Anaconda for mining. It has enough hardpoints, utilities, and module space to run a very good laser miner, and it can pretty much toast any NPC pirates who might drop in. But when I jump from my DBS to the Anaconda, I feel like I went from driving a BMW to a school bus.

Fair enough, good for you. I use my Krait Mk II for mining, am I doing it wrong?

I think we either have an affinity with a ship or not, nothing too silly about that notion, so put the effort into getting the best from those we like.

The Mamba is another ship I really like, but is going to take me a while to actually fly well, although I blame the FDL for that.

A couple of players in my squadron in Carcosa fly anacondas really well - but they have been flying them for a very long time!

Interesting you should mention the MkII. I use that for mining as well. I kind of flip between the MkII and the Anaconda for that task. From a handling standpoint, I prefer the MkII. From the "I can nuke anything that bothers me while I mine" standpoint, I go with the Anaconda, because I can toss 2 mining lance lasers and 2 class 2 mining lasers in there and still have enough hardpoints to defend myself.

If I had to rank my favorite ships:

1 - DBS
2 - Phantom
3 - Chieftan
4 - Courier
5 - Krait MkII

Are you sure you aren't my brother? lol

My Mamba is one of my most preferred ships, it is the only ship I truly enjoy combat with. Since getting it and finally settling in on a weapons loadout I like, I haven't flown my FdL. It has got that bad that I have stripped the FdL of most of the modules to outfit a couple of other ships and one day soon will sell the hull off.

For me the reason I like flying the Mamba is the central cockpit (great views to be had with no offsets) and the simple fact of all the hardpoints being on the upper surface. That suits my flying style perfectly, never really utilise hardpoints that are below the centre line in any ship (looking at the Large Hardpoint on the Corvette, you useless piece of wasted machinery). I must be a terrible pilot because I didn't experience much difference in flying between the Mamba and the FdL, even with both engineered to near identical specifications.
