Smart Orbit Lines

Right now, we have orbit lines on or off. I'd like to see 'smart' orbit lines be an option.

I don't like seeing orbit lines, but they are immensely helpful for navigation. Want to always end up facing the mail box when you drop out of SC? Use orbit lines and some intelligent navigation, and it will happen.

However, to do this, I have to have orbit lines on and see all orbits in the system.

What I'm suggesting is to have an option for orbit lines (on/off/smart) where if you select 'smart', it will only display orbit lines of your target and its parent objects.

For example, if you target a station orbiting a planet that orbits another planet that orbits a star, and you have 'smart' selected for orbit lines, the only orbit lines you see are for the target (station), the plant it orbits, and the planet that orbits the main star. Three orbit lines. Extremely helpful for navigation, but not so cluttered as all orbit lines being shown.

Interesting thought. I make a lot of use of some of the orbit lines when heading to a station, others are unnecessary clutter.

But with the new targeting circles, if your target is behind a stellar body, the circle is dashed; if it's in front, the circle is solid. No need to have orbit lines on at all.

I don't use orbit lines to keep from running into planets. This is what the solid/dashed is meant to help you avoid.

I use orbit lines, as stated in the OP, 'to always end up facing the mail box when you drop out of SC'. Just having the solid/dashed semi-circle for your target doesn't allow for that.

Is everybody aware that there is now a control binding to switch orbit lines on and off?
I only have them on for a brief period when approaching a planet, to align my ship inside the orbit, then I switch them off again.

YES, we and the OP know about that switch, we are talking for another more elegant choice
