Right now, we have orbit lines on or off. I'd like to see 'smart' orbit lines be an option.
I don't like seeing orbit lines, but they are immensely helpful for navigation. Want to always end up facing the mail box when you drop out of SC? Use orbit lines and some intelligent navigation, and it will happen.
However, to do this, I have to have orbit lines on and see all orbits in the system.
What I'm suggesting is to have an option for orbit lines (on/off/smart) where if you select 'smart', it will only display orbit lines of your target and its parent objects.
For example, if you target a station orbiting a planet that orbits another planet that orbits a star, and you have 'smart' selected for orbit lines, the only orbit lines you see are for the target (station), the plant it orbits, and the planet that orbits the main star. Three orbit lines. Extremely helpful for navigation, but not so cluttered as all orbit lines being shown.
