Smoooooooooooooooth- stutter is gone!

Thought I'd check in as I saw a patch. Nope
Question springs to mind, Does DB actually know how bad this game is becoming. Downgraded graphics. Unfixable stutter, no depth or is he genuinely in the dark about it. Thinking all is well.

First Encounters was unfinished buggy mess. Supposedly it was all Gametek's fault, they said "release it now!" Yet here we are again with a buggy unfinished ED rushed to release...

I didn't play for long last night, but it does seem to be a lot better for me. Prior to the patch it was getting to the point of being unplayable.

It is not completely gone, it is still there, but feels more like it was prior to 1.3. Haven't noticed any NPCs 'jumping' around back and forth in SC either, although there were increased delays on CZ spawning when arriving. Friend was in the instance before me and nothing spawned until a good minute later when I arrived (and still took a few seconds longer than normal to appear for me). Would love these to be already in action when I arrive as it does break the immersion but I am going off topic.

Data transfers between the server also seem to be smaller on average, but need more time to test out more.

I played a game once, ran like a bag of tied up cats....then.... DEVS : "We are releasing a patch to optimise and improve fps, netcode etc" ME: "WHOA!!! this is awesome, silky smooth and.....wait a minute....where did all the trees go???" :/

That's why Fallout has no trees.

If anything, the stutters in supercruise seem worse than before.

Strange thing is that when I try to record a video about it with FRAPS, the stutter disappears. And starts again once I stop recording.

S... s... s... sneaky!

Btw, mine (micro)stutters happily away. Since 1.3.05. I'll try and force-disable shader precache tonight, see what happens.

The only thing they did was not to cash the shaders on game startup. Now its back to when you get spinning ship load screen.

Was that in open?

Once in open, twice in solo. In open I saw two other commanders, and other than their ship hitching once, smooth as silk. In solo, Leslie Phillips smooth, much, much better than before in solo. Hyperspace, dropping out, stations, SC, just works. Before I would have Elite freeze for seconds at a time, and massive fps loss.

I hope as many people as possible experience this, it sounds crazy but the game is just amazing when it flows together.

My specs: Core 2 Extreme Q6850, 4gb ram, Win7, GTX 460 1gb vram, 750gb mechanical drive

To those saying stutter is gone:
- did you have it only since 1.3.00 (e.g. was ok in 1.2)?
- do you have AMD cards?
If yes to both of these, this suggests the removal of the shader caching has helped in your case.

Great......really great!

I must say FD have done a great job improving the game's performances for me. I still get some stutter right after dropping into a station instance, but supercruise and asteroid fields are all smooth now.

The stuttering is worse than before for me. -.-

Sometimes the performance is back to 1.2 (which means much better in terms of stuttering) for a minute, but this is a rare exception.

It's really annoying as hell! I have started considering to stop playing ED. I have also lost nearly all faith but I have troubles to believe that it's somehow so hard to fix this issue.

There was noticeably less stuttering when I played last night. Maybe it's a coincidence rather than FD having changed something? So some of us just happened to have got a better server connection and some got worse but we're trying to find reasons?

What spec do you have? I think i have a really good rig but it still stutters as hell...

I'm also one of those who never had stutter before 1.3, got it then and now its gone again.

Must be hell to figure out what is all causing stuttering, always when its fixed for some it gets worse for others. Thank god thats not my Job ^^

Alright, reporting back. I've done as stated above and the near-planet lag is gone. I mean it's literally non-existent! Edit: visited 6 systems, 8 planets, 2 entries into 1 RES. No lag. At all.

The bad news is, the game is still microstuttering for me. It's not as bad - no, no placebo here, honestly, it isn't as bad - or frequent as it was before the appconfig.xml change, but it's still there.

And I got finally interdicted by an Elite Anaconda :D

Today was a good day.

A smartphone powered by a potato would out-perform my Q6600/HD6970, so I doubt it's got anything to do with raw performance. Especially since my framerate hasn't really changed - it has improved since release but obviously I'll never get above my current 40 average fps - but most of the stuttering in SC and around planets is gone.

No joy here either, populated systems for me still have a lot of stuttering. Any system with ships/stations activity stutter, if empty and just celestial bodies smooth as glass.

Happy you! If that's true, all you need to do is have recording switched on permanently!
(And should stutter come back anyway, then at least you'll have a recording.)

No HDD space for such feats. But FDEV could implement something FRAPS does when recording, to make the graphics smooth.

I tried various ingame and Nvidia control panel Vsync & frame limiter settings. For now, smoothest experience (least microstutters) seems to be ingame framelimiter & Vsync OFF, Nvidia Adaptive Vsync ON (not the half framerate version).

Have you tried using the loop buffer in fraps to solve your issue? So you're sort of recording, but not really until you press record for proper and it adds on the loop buffer at the start. If you use loop buffer but don't start proper recording it may still be running the stuff that fixes your stutter.

Weird "fix" by the way - using an app that you'd think would add an overhead.
