Smuggling missions now pointless.

And to those of you who were re logging and making 20mil+/hr, I realise that there's no rule against it but you have successfully ruined a good thing for everyone else by exploiting a game mechanic. I hope you enjoy your riches and discover sooner rather than later that having all the credits doesn't necessarily make the game better.

Oh for crying out loud, get over yourself! Do you realize that some of us have full time jobs and other things that mean sometimes we can't play at all for a week or two, and most of the time we can only squeeze in an hour or so here and there? I have played this game since Beta, restarted with a new commander in May, and from May-October I made 16 million in profit. That means that earning enough to buy an Anaconda would take me 60 months, or 5 years. Finding a thing like the Sothis missions is the only way I'm going to be able to experience more than 5% of the game. I'd like to see you fly in a Hauler for six months straight, trying to earn enough for an Asp so you can do some exploring, while being interdicted by Pythons and Federal Dropships, ships that could only dream of being able to afford.

Not everyone is single and unemployed and can grind credits for 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.

No, but I can't play when eating, of mowing the lawn, or washing my car or myself or my cats or the lawn. But I can startup the game and just peek at the board between these activities, and take missions until I can play, or when the timer of the first mission I took becomes important. I don't look at the screen and watch the board change, I just do other things next to it :)
So you were even less engaged in the game then I am when I am exploring, but when I am exploring and entertain myself in the dull moments, I'm not playing a game, because a game where you can watch part of QI while you're traveling a long distance isn't a game at all, but a game where you can walk away from the pc entirely and check every 15 minutes or so is a game and is the right way to play this game and my brain is wondering if there's a rest stop between me and the end of this sentence.

Disclaimer: with the way this thread is going I have no idea who voiced that sentiment, so might not be directed at you. :)

edit: Decent thing to do was to check, and nope, not directed at you. Strangely enough those who did voice that sentiment didn't respond :)

Maybe we need to post this a hundred million times so you can partially understand...................some of us only get 2 hours a night to play..........at the most.

So... what. Repeat: so ... what. See, before. So. What. I don't care if you can't arrange play-time for whatever made-up reasons you can muster to come up with. People who spend 8+ hours a day working have no problems. What are your problems? Not worth a squat of concern.

LOL!
Support this statement whole heartedly!!

And equally some people don't care that you don't like the fact people made lots of money (myself I didn't make a cent out of Sothis) you play the way you want and let others play the way they want.

Rep.

I have a wife, two children, and a job as a computer programmer. I play so many games I"m more familiar with all of the universes that could exist than I am the one that does, and I can comfortably explain the basics of quantum physics. Time is a resource that you have to mine or steal from other places. LIke now. I'm posting from work. Deuces.

People made money. I didn't. And again - so what? Not my problem. I've got funner things in game to do than bother about Cr/hour.

I play two hours a session, every night on average. Last evening I made around 3.5 million in that time. I didn't waste energy looking for big scores. I went around taking the missions that were listed and sometimes encountered a decent paying mission on the way. I stacked where I could and made a few minor paying missions pay like a large one as a result.

You can chase the big payout if you want, or just play the game. I've said it many times; if you play Elite for the money then you are playing for the wrong reasons.

Don't expect the game to change for you. If you're too inflexible to amend your play style to fit the current game environment, then you need to look elsewhere for your entertainment.

if you play Elite for the money then you are playing for the wrong reasons I play it for..

.

fixed that for you. getting tired of all these "you need to play Elite this way" People play for whatever reason "they" want to play it. They paid just as much money as you did maybe even more if the one of the original backers. I'm sat in a Cobra I bought 5 months ago so money isn't my motivation in the game but for some people it is and they have just as much a right to voice that as you do against it.

This is actually news to me, I also knew about Sothis but I was also completely happy doing the leg work myself (making allies, finding money-throwing stations and organizations, it was all great fun finding elusive 500k+ smuggling runs. This actually saddens me, not for the nerf but for the lack of a buff.

IMO they should have buffed the difficulty of these missions, I mean seriously. REALLY increase the risk! If you are about to take a 1mil smuggling run you should know that all hell is about to break loose and, for an instant, you become the most wanted man in your little spread of the galaxy. Interdictions left and right, Anacondas making b-lines for your hold, system police blockading station entrances... sigh...

My biggest take was 600k smuggling 4 explosives to a neighboring system, and I get interdicted by an Eagle... (I'm in a Dropship). The reason why I left the game for 6 months, was because risk felt optional. Hell, I took a 60k smuggling run and got interdicted by a Dangerous Dropship, WTH? Still no risk, NPCs are still pushovers and do strange twirling actions for no reason, oh but now they drop shaft, yay...

yeah I'm on the... so what? camp.

I couldn't be any more care free on the subject. So what smuggling paid.. If people enjoyed it, even for a few days, then right on. The more people enjoy the game the better for EVERYONE.

Who cares if people made credits having fun. reward=fun=ED Success. How would trillionaires affect me anyway?

You also labeled people who disagreed with your point of view a certain way which didn't convey to me your sentiment of everyone having the right to voice their opinion.

and where did I do that? I called a couple of people trolls because they were obvious trolls but please point out exactly where I said "I think your wrong so you opinion doesn't matter?"

If I did then I will obviously apologise but my memory if foggy due to advancing age so...

You didn't explicitly say that, and I never claimed you did. I said: You also labeled people who disagreed with your point of view a certain way which didn't convey to me your sentiment of everyone having the right to voice their opinion.
you can't have an MMO without the usual moaning ers that seem to infest everyone of these games

Yes and as I've been called in this thread so far, "whiner, whiners, instant-gratification nub" which is just the other side of the coin. That was pointing out that in all the MMO's I've played you always get a small minority of vocal forum posters who are always complaining about something, usually people winning too much, making too much, dying too much. I'm possibly one of them without even realising it but from what I can see on the forums I'm not.

My original post wasn't about the fact Sothis got canned it was about the fact everything got canned.
