Smuggling missions now pointless.

The crux of the matter is, you don't do a 400LY trip to get one mission, maybe, if stars align. Short range "basic" smuggling missions are way better in the current scheme of things.

What is most often forgotten is that these missions required you to play for at least 3 hours continuously, while you can do short range missions in 15 minutes.

They're still there :)
I'm a Tycoon trader and haven't seen any smuggling missions for a day, until 5 minutes ago. Got this one at Almagest.

So what? One mission isn't exciting enough to be worth it. You probably won't see more than a single pirate in SC, or a single cop before trying to dock. This is just easy money that is REALLY hard to find. Where is the fun? It went from a cops-n-robbers chase scene, to a station mining simulator. Such a huge downgrade in terms of gameplay.

Exactly.... Also have no idea what that guy is saying about VR :/ I'd like the find one person that plays ED in VR and does something else at the same time (except music)

That was pretty much my point. In VR, you're strapped in... you're not meant to be reading magazines or channel surfing the tv while playing a VR game. I'm not going to be the guy who tells others how to play.. it was just my personal reaction that for a game so focused on the VR potential, it was strange to find that people are doing these other things at the same time.

I also won't tell you that this is the games fault, or anyone's fault, it was just my reaction. If you want to do your taxes while system hopping that's fine by me.

So you're say that we need a way so that the mission come faster with the minimal amount of waiting but not to fast that its not overbalance and not to slow so that we are not waiting for too long. The way i see it is that the game isn't really design around just sitting and waiting you still have the option to go to other stations that do have missions. So the game gives you that choice of going out there and finding them or you could sit around and wait for it to spawn.

It does give you that choice - my point of contention is that the game should not be balanced around players stacking missions while doing nothing or simply: high paying missions should still exist. High paying missions are great for people with limited time or who want to complete one longer mission rather than lots of shorter ones.

Lowering the pay so that players who stack missions cannot generate excessive income affects the players who are looking to utilise the longer missions as a worthwhile income and enjoyable endeavour. It also doesn't address mission stacking and 'not playing' that the game should look at discouraging. No game should involve you doing nothing as part of it's gameplay.

So logging in and out of modes to refresh the BB should be eliminated, there is no reason for it to exist as it does. Anyone who plays to min-max is obligated to switch between open and solo whenever they check the BB for missions currently and many players report the compulsion to do so.

To prevent players from simply sitting around and collecting up lots of missions they should tie the increase in payout to cargo size. There should be a distance modifier and a cargo space modifier where missions that use up more cargo space pay more and missions that need you to travel further pay more. Keeping those in line with whatever thresholds they set for credit acquisition in the game is simple maths - a lot simpler than the maths they use to procedurally generate the galaxy at least. This way, players who want to 'hang around' can do so at their whim, but nobody needs to be hanging around in order to maximise their gains nor do they need to be mode switching either. Gameplay flows organically rather than being interrupted by peculiar quirks or needless clock watching and all the players can be happy. If they have larger cargo holds they can pick up the missions which require more space - and get a better return for it.

Some players believe that FDEV also need to address the amount of missions generated as sometimes you can spend a long time waiting for a mission that provides you specifically the influence you want to place on the background simulation. It's a fair point - as a lot of the controls require you to react in a certain way and often require you to do more than just a single mission, where the mission for this appears rarely it inhibits the players ability to effect the BGS. I imagine FDEV would concede that this is a problem but highlight that it contributes to the authenticity of the simulation.

Sorry if that is poorly communicated, my painkillers make me wander.

I would expect you'll come back to the bounty board having a timer on its list per player that prevents it refreshing. Session swapping to cheat the RNG probably won't last a lot longer.

I'm cool with that.

Maybe then people wouldn't have abused the system in the first place, claiming then on the forums how ludicrous was to be able to earn 200 million credits in a row.

Anyway, too many good games being released these months to keep caring. See you on horizons, probably.

End of the day this was just another bug which wasn't noticed (one of many) in the latest patch.

IF FD actually did their due diligence when creating these beta's (i.e. not trying to make extra coin out of people to buy into helping them produce a quality experience) then this mess of a patch would have been put out in a bug free state.

No because FD are more interested in emptying your hip pocket (and the fanboi's keep just throwing money at them sigh) they don't do due process correctly. Stop this "buy into beta thing" and let everyone check your game so when it comes out it is less likely going to be full of these bugs...

We told them about it in Beta.. I'll freely admit I never knew you could mode switch to spawn mission's. I was under the impression it was first come first serve.. Which is the case to a certain extent.

And Fire.. Am not having a go, but Stop whinging man, your posts sounds like whinging,

Yeah, nice try. Such a downgrade in money-for-nothing you mean? In my world, 35 mil per hour is easy money, no matter what it is you have to do for it.

Have you even taken any other trading missions? Because the frequency of getting interdicted by pirates is about the same as before. And the cops? What cops?

Got scanned by a cop on sunday:

This is what I was trucking:

Most of the systems in between are anarchy systems, so the cops were just... there. In the controlled systems, you get interdicted, boost twice and you are gone again. Even if you were fined, the money you would make by just jump and honk would paid the bills with ease.

I'm still doing long range missions and think the fun is the same. Only the payments went from hideous to normal.

You may not like it but FD already said they do not consider the relogging an exploit, and Micheal Brookes stated it is completely allowed to do when asked about it for resetting RES zone spawns. If you are gonna accuse people of exploiting then make sure you are not making false accusations

Link please? Been through the last few months of his comments and can't find anything. In fact cant find anything from FDev with mode switching as regards to the BB. There was a support ticket to one guy saying it was "not intended behaviour" but I can't find the thread again.

That said please give this a read.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exploit_(video_gaming)

And note that I said exploit and not cheat. I don't think that using the BB refresh is a cheat, it's clearly not. What it is, is exploiting a game mechanic for a purpose other than the designers intent.

Now are you seriously going to claim that the designers intended for you to log out of the game and then log back in, in a different mode every minute for 40 minutes so you could keep resetting the rng on the special mission spawns when the refresh staying in one mode is 10 mins? Because even for FDev's slightly odd choice for game mechanics that would be well out of left field. Not to mention that if it was intended they wouldn't have felt the need to nerf.

Frankly mate I think you used the exploit, knowing that it wasn't really an intended mechanic and excused yourself by saying "there's no law against it".

I am pretty affected by a game breaking bug, yes I'm winging about it because well I can't really play.. The reality is if there was enough players participating in beta then this may have been noticed. You even said they were told about smuggling yet nothing was done?? So why even have betas??

Because people pay extra to play the beta?...

Its been there for a year, it was even fixed to a certain extend during Beta 3.0 or something, or even Gamma. In the early Beta, you would get the same mission when you switched mode and back again. So you would end up with a list of all and the same missions. This was fixed.

*edit*
It was fixed after gamma. I got my Sirius permit a little easier than I should have, and I still have it. If it would have been fixed in gamma, I would have lost the permit because of the wipe at the end of Beta3.

In fact, its not even bug really. You don't spawn new mission when you switch modes, you get connected to a different server, serving a different list. At least Solo and Open use different servers, so you just switch between 2 lists, with both having their own refresh rate. If you switch too often, you get the same list back without the missions you just took in your previous cycle.

Can I just say it is not too bad. Did another run to Sothis earlier in my very old T6 (better jump range than my python). Smuggling missions were non-existent but made about 9.5 million from long range trade missions :) In a T6!!!

Exactly. It's reasonable now. God forbid people make 9 million credits/hour instead of 20+ million credits/hour.

My cobra is going back in the shed. I want adventure. I want to blaze my path and so on. I don't want to look at a broken galaxy map trade route finder. I dont want to use a 3rd party website to grind A to B trade routes for mindless hours. I certainly dont want to be an Elite waste delivery man.

They're still good money to be made though.I've just completed a 51 mil run.Could have been sheer luck, I'll try again tomorrow.

I think you have me confused with someone else. I am advocating for these missions to be more difficult. The money reward is irrelevant, since I already have all the money and ships I'll ever want or need. Currently the only way to make these missions even a little challenging is to stack them to promote multiple NPC spawns. Just stacking trade will spawn pirates, but then docking is extremely boring, and I don't need to worry about detection distance, positioning, police scans, silent running, heat management, or running out of heatsinks at a station that doesn't give ammo. Not that any of this stuff is hard to do, but at least with smuggling you do need to at least worry about it a little.

The NPCs can actually be a threat depending on which ship you are in. When you are in an Asp and not hiding inside a Python, then the challenge of getting pulled over and shot out of the sky by a Python/FAS duo is a serious threat, even with boost. This is why I left my Python parked, and used an Asp: to increase the difficulty from "falling over drunk" to "moderately easy if I keep an eye on the radar".

Smuggling still pays more than it ever did in 1.3, you've just become numb to the numbers because they were so outrageous for a week straight.

But of course you will always get the whiners that complain about not having enough time to get a Conda. Well guess what, thats how the game has always been, its always taken long to progress. Maybe you should look into playing other games (that you have time for), or try out CQC.. it was designed for the instant gratification crowd that doesnt have the time and patience to earn what they want.

No it doesn't.

It doesn't even exist anymore. At least not like it should, being based around the BGS and the current state fluctuations of systems.

All my little routes supplying uprisings against tyrannical dictators, cartels and mafia are over.

Honestly, I really got to ask who you blew to have this happen?

Is it "smuggling needs a nerf" those key words?

Cuz now all missions that I cared about are GONE.

Thanks.
