Sneak Peak: Beta Engineering

Can we please please PLEEEEEASE have the material traders located AT the engineer bases??? They say they care about quality of life, about not wasting our time....PLEAAASSE put the at the bases where we would need them. There is no reason not to - it is just plain cruel.

You realize you can engineer pinned recipes at the material trader right? The only reason you need to go to an engineer is to pin recipes or get an experimental effect, and you can add these at any point for any module, with no need to return to the engineer after.

If you can get your head around the preconception that you are not supposed to run around with full g5 modules, it's brilliant

Some people say we're not supposed to eat animals either. I say, if we're not, then why are they made of meat?

If we're not supposed to run around with full G5 modules, why do they go to G5?

To me, there's nothing wrong with working on your upgrades, pushing everything you have to its full potential - but it isn't a requirement by any means. It does give some goals to work towards, and that's a good thing.

I just think some adjusting is in order. I do like the new system, absolutely. I'm not that keen on how many upgrades it takes, or the sheer amount of materials used. I'm not afraid of doing some work, as long as it feels meaningful. Trading or scrounging up enough materials for "one more upgrade", especially when they're particularly rare materials, or worse - common or standard materials with terrible spawn rates (CIF anyone?), or only found in one type of signal source, on Wednesdays, when the primary and tertiary stars are aligned and the planets are in retrograde, and the nearest trader offering these is 30 jumps away... that's when my skin gets crawly.

Since you can only pin one, that's not much use. Which is why pinning the chain for an effect for a module would make much more sense, also during material collection.

Yep! Makes total sense... Will reduce the unnecessary hassle and faff...

But someone at FD seems to think hassle and faff is quality game time it seems...

As a long term reward. Just like hotels in Monopoly. You may want to have a whole lot of them after a few turns, but it doesnt happen. Even though they exist.

Btw, you are also made of meat... :)

Thus I avoid cannibals, yet have been known to tell others to "eat me".

And I do agree with the "long term reward" premise - though how long that term should be is somewhat debatable. I'm hoping to not still be converting modules in 2038, but presently it feels like I might.

Yup, I can now do fairly rapidly what I never came close to in years. Still stuff that needs polishing but the general progress is surprisingly fast.

Clicking 20x on the same button gets old fast though...

I find the clicking bearable. The amount of time for engineering a ship to where one needs it is greatly decreased by the mat traders. And the guaranteed progression does the same.
