So, 4 patches and mining is still effectively broken :(

No, I wouldn't say mining is broken. Nor is the market.

Today laser-mined Painite @ GCRV 1568 AB 1 / smaller circle of double hotspot = 146 t, rocks are up to 48%
Sold for 940k/t = 137mil.
All works just fine.

Well I'm mainly looking for the SSD and surface deposits as I don't like core mining ... but my point is that none of them were core, and the none glowing ones didn't fair much better in the LTD hotspot (for example)

anyway ... I guess everyone is happy with the current state of things, so there's no point in putting a case to FDev to turn the tap on a little more ... I'll get back in my box
Personally, I'm happy (ish) with the state of mining as it is. But it certainly could do with more improvements. Especially with Hot Spots and core mining in general tbh. But I think FDev may screw more things up than fix any apparent problems that may still exist.

If you're after quick credits with laser mining then I think you can't go far wrong with Painite. Single hot spots in Metallic rings throws the stuff at you. IMO there is a lot more Painite than Tritium available in the Galaxy to mine.

So sad that laser mining is still basically broken

This was 1 hour spent in an LTD "hotspot" (single hotspot)

I tried an Alexandrite hotspot and got 0 Alexandrite. Void Opal hotspot and got 0 void opals. Grandidierite I got a couple .... LTD still the best of the bunch (no painite hotspots nearby) but all the other "good ones" are still broken

Still, at least I've managed to mine about 500T of Tritium over the last 3 hours whilst looking for riches so my FC won't go hungry for a while

can I have your tritium?

"Mission accomplished!!!!": Fdev, probably.

OP, one thing I'd be curious about is the system you're mining in - what are the reserve levels like? Also, are you (laser) mining Painite in a Metal Rich ring? If you do, then stop that... Metallic is the only way (at least for laser mining).

My complaint with mining is that its so boring, I've just spent more hours than I care to admit on a mining trip to get 119t Serendibite, 36t Painite, 35t Platinum, from a Serendibite hot spot, all from cores. I must have spent 95% of my time meandering around the rocks making pinging noises like a demented submarine. There is money to be made but if it hadn't of been for the riveting story line in the Archers Omnibus this morning I would have surly fallen asleep, I still had to take a break for lunch and decided to watch the end of a Morse.
On a side note, I have managed to convince myself that there are more cores on the planet side of a hot spot than on the outer side, but I am probably just imagining it.

you are talking about 25km.

when i go VO corehunting, i easily cover 150-250 km between cores. a typical VO core hunting session of me covers up to 1500 km.

i wouldn't expect a VO core necessarily in a 25km radius. 25-30 km is a good distance for a laser mining run. but not for cores

Sabbath bloody Sabbath....It's a day of reflection...Or they're building up suspense for evening time...Wait, it is evening in your part of the world no?

Lol!
Yeah I think I'm across the pond from you. Well that's not true, I know I am, but more like I think you're across from me!?

I have my fingers crossed for some more late threads, where players have been drinking and get really combative about daft crap! Will make up for a slow one!

Double Painite works fine. Even better if you have a fleet carrier to park near the spot, that you can fill and sell at your leisure.

You guys obviously aren't reading my posts properly ... I've said I'm prospecting the glowing rocks, in otherwords I'm using a pulse wave analyzer to find possible core rocks and then prospecting them, to find they're false echoes mainly ... or just have a few deposits to blast off
Hang on. If you want to laser mine, there's no point looking for glowing rocks. The glow indicates surface, subsurface or core, none of which are accessible with lasers.

You are right if we are looking at the glowing asteroids directly. They even have a lower probability of laser content (at least for Tritium, can be different with minerals).

It seems that in the close vicinity of the glowing ones the probability of better intrinsic content of the asteroids increases. Not easy to prove, check for yourself and see if you can confirm this, or if it's just Kabbalah. Think in increased likelihood rather than clear evidence. I heard this from someone else and am trying to confirm this impression for quite a while now. So far I believe he could be on to something...
Well, I think your theory has some logic to it. As the yellow rocks tend to be excluded from having the mineral you're looking for with laser mining, it's more likely the others directly around it do from a spread point of view.

I have been mucking about with a double LTD hotspot for a few days, puttering about with my mining python and throwing everything at glowing rocks when these contain something worthwhile. Most profitable activity seems to be subsurface deposits at the moment, with core mining a close second (just takes longer). Abrasion blasting occasionally happens during core mining as well as if there's something interesting at the surface. And there's still from time to time good stuff to be found with conventional mining.

The types of deposits seem a bit random now, and there's a prevalence of tritium which I don't really care about (is there an in-game way to see if local carriers have purchase orders for it without docking with them?): Cores seem pretty common but they are usually VOs or sometimes Alexandrite. I might have seen some LTDs.

Subsurface missiling surely became effective and profitable though! I like the new large hit box, hard to miss even on a fast spinning rock.
