So, about the new mining gold-rush...

Personally, I'd just set it up so that carrying void opals (or anything similar) has the same effect as carrying, erm, anything at a CNB/RES - constant attacks.
I'd actually make it so dangerous that it'd be borderline-impossible to do alone in any ship.

makes you wonder why pirates prefer biowaste over void opals...

You are damn right it doesn’t sit well with some folks! I don’t understand this obsession some people have with limiting some of the best gameplay to open mode only. I am not trying to ruin other peoples games so why are they trying to ruin mine I ask? That IS what you are trying to do - whether you realize it or not. I have had my share of pvp in GTA5, and I am not doing that again. If you want exitement you are free to do your mining in open mode already - so go do that! Don’t try to ruin a game that I love.

Can confirm North Korea is open for tourism.

At least there is now some skill involved with this gold rush. The Sothis passenger runs and other such previous gold rushes really felt cheap, cheaty and boring.

And it's also accessable to all players. Also as the hotspots dry up it's going to be beneficial to use a smaller faster ship, as more time will be spent looking for the core asteroids than actually mining them

No idea why they left in legacy mining, it seems totally detached from the new system

4.7 million today from one rock.

Not bad for 13T cargo.

You can only patch so many gold rushes. Having one related to their big and slightly controversial in some ways update is probably not such a bad thing either.

TBH, that's what worries me most.

FDev seem to have a habit of putting new features "front & centre" regardless of how useful they are.
It'd be a shame if they decided to leave this alone simply to encourage everybody to go mining.

It's a subtle distinction but, to be clear, I don't have a problem with mining being profitable.
My problem is with the fact that, right now, if you don't want to go mining, you aren't getting the same opportunities to make credits as those who are.

I went to a system, tonight, to get some mat's, noticed there was an LTD hot-spot in one of the rings, transferred my AspX there, spent an hour flying around, exploded three rocks, hoovered up the LTDs, shipped them to Jardenerre (sp?) and I'm Cr80m richer.

If that's the way the game's gonna be, it needs to be that way for traders, mission-runners, explorers and combateers too.

Thing is money has always been pretty pointless in this game (good thing too) - once you have an initial "seed" amount the rest is fairly easy - but, it is hard to break the mentality that "more" money is the the best use of time. It also helps that the new mining seems to have got the balance between fun and effort about right.
I just got home late and spent an hour mining in live, made 24mill and was hoping for some nefarious types to attempt to take it off me (no takers this evening sadly) - but it was as entertaining an hour as I've spent in live in awhile.
I agree with Stealthie's thought that the reward from different activities should be similar - so the challenge here is to bring the other "professions" up to mining's new standards.
Either that or a big vault where I can keep my diamonds and opals and roll about in them laughing maniacally :p

You can earn more faster doing cargo runs in systems where you are allied with most/all factions - but this is FUN!

Well, from an RP perspective (not that I give a rat's about that) but us players contribute a whole heap to the BGS of the game. We make things happen.

Now that everyone is out mining, who is hauling biowaste to the planets, who is lugging slaves into the mines?

Pirate MM are worth a lot now. Is this something new in 3.3? 16mil for 36 kills, 30mil for 63 and with the "mission target" POI it feels like pirate farming.

Yeah, I've noticed that too.

Kinda like with cargo-missions, though, you don't always get the high-paying missions and you don't always get the POI's which make them super-easy either.
And, at least you have to get shot at (a bit) to earn your credits for massacre missions.

Are they working? For a long time they were bugged with random drop outs of valid mission targets from the designated faction.

This is the absolute truth. I was recently working on Shock cannon unlocks, multiple classes, fixed and gimballed. I then said - nah - I'll go get frags from Nemo. The mats are the killer.

Same. I got as far as fixed, medium shock cannons but goddamn, they want a grocery list of mats per size and type.

Pic's or it didn't happen.

No, forgive me but I am not going to spend a lot of time doing something I don’t like too much just to convince you - and I am not even in the Bubble now either. But you don’t have to look further than page 1 in this thread to find a post by 777Driver who agrees with me:

You haven’t looked too much cause missions like those are not even difficult to find.
