So far I've spent 30 minutes trying to setup FSS

Sounds like you just didn't get all of them bound, or did your keybinds get wiped for some reason?

I used mouse for fss directions, which wasnt great in first beta but had acceleration added in later beta and us great now. The left/right mouse buttons for scanning, middle button for zooming in/out. I think it works really well.

But depends on if you're using console though. If pc, try that.

When you get it working right can you post a write up on how you did it? I still have to set mine up and it's like dipping a toe in a cold pool trying to decide if I should jump in or not.

Dude, wait till you lose the key to switch HUD mode. That'll really keep you entertained.

I don't even know where that is to bind it???

Why isn't there an FD guide.

Yeah wait until you get good at it and decide to use it for a larger system. Then jump and decide to do it on the next one.

Some advanced warning.. if you enjoy elite for the flight sim concept, you really need to manage and control and contain how you use the fss if you don't want to rage quit when outside the bubble.

Literally took me 3 seconds and then one look at help and practical 3 minute play through to figure it out in full.

If I can mange perfectly and quickly in Elite with a PS4 controller then I'm sure you can figure it out with a keyboard.

Yeah what even is that?

I already hate how my HOTAS won’t work when I’m in a browser looking at INARA or something.
I’ve got lots of controls.
I want to be able to reach out and move a lever or press a button and have it do it’s thing.
I hate the SRV turret for similar reasons.

30 Minutes is nothing, after a few hours trying to find a good setup with the 'insane' amount of keybinds now required to play I gave up. This update has told me its time to take a hiatus from Elite. Sorry Frontier, but game is getting into the "ridiculous zone' atm.

Because You Tube.

I've only got on tonight, third time lucky. Mostly been probing some places that are special to me.

I use an X52 and I've found I do have enough controls but I'm struggling to find similarities between the binds to remember them.
So my hat switches tend to be my fine controls for the Camera or the SRV thrusters but then the scanner doesn't follow the same pattern.

I've used the twist motion to tune and currently trying one hat for zoom and another for stepped zoom.

The Probe controls are straight forward but I haven't yet attempted the third person view. Not sure about that.

I couldn't get rid of the text "Tuning not bound" but I can move the tuner left and right so its a bug. Zooming in doesn't work unless your big blue circle is precisely centered on a small white circle. So move the tuner down to the left where you see the signal spikes and find a white circle to zoom in on. Hope that helps.

Excuse me if I repeat myself here, but my initial experience was like the ops.
Use a joypad..... just for the scanner stuff, it will live happily alongside Hotas, keyboard, edtrackers etc etc and it's what the UI in scanning seems to have been designed for - only need to map that one mode switch button and then you can leave everything else alone.

edit - OP your looking for MODE SWITCHES -then SWITCH HUD MODE is right at the bottom

I’ve spent ages VR ...x52pro....brimming days I have spent...well all my free time in those days. Reverted to 2d and an Xbox controller on my pc. Seriously annoyed because it actually looks a good thing...badly implemented. But my hotas! I love it but now what?
I even went and tried ‘another’ 3d space game in frustration. Total crap. I hope that’s not how newcomers will look at ED.

Oh my...tried to do HCS voicepacks too. Oh no. More whisky George? Oh yes.
